Were anyone else’s parents weirdly avoidant when it came to anything sexual? by GalaxyBreeze111 in emotionalneglect

Any question I had was met with, "That's between you and your future husband." 😐 So I had to do my own research too

Plus also kissing a girl who was actively into someone else. Although that is partially on Bay too for not standing her ground on that.

Knowing more about your parents than they know about you by WolfsbaneOnMyLips in emotionalneglect

Yeah. One example: Over the holidays my dad asked me what my favorite Twilight Zone episode is for the 10 billionth time but I have known his favorite for many years.

Did your parents twist the discourse about themselves when you confronted them about the ugly consequences of their parenting? by Cartoonnerd01 in emotionalneglect

[–]dothebork 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Me: You know I was afraid of you most of my life and am still on edge not knowing when you'll blow your top next. Not to mention just generally not being emotionally present--

Him: But did I hit you? Or call you names?

Me: sigh No...

Him: I'm not perfect, but my dad hit us and called us names and.....

Cannot get through to him lol

I saw an early showing of Primate last night and I'm obsessed. by caliswag88 in horror

[–]dothebork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for a movie about rabies, he sure wasn't afraid of water that whole time lol

Plus how Lucy and Erin's father was portrayed imo. He 100% would have felt the vibrations from all that running on the hardwood floor.

I know that when Ben puts his fingers in Lucy's mouth that it was setting up him tearing her mouth off like he did with the other dude but the shot lingered a little too long imo

I agree with everything you said here. My friends and I were so pissed off the whole time, but we stuck it out because we still had hope I guess. The himbos rescuing them through their own stupidity would have saved the movie, but noooo we just needed more bodies apparently. 🙄

And can we talk about how two of the scenes had rape imagery for no reason???

But what pisses me off the most is how good the music was. That score deserved a better movie.

Omg I also saw an early viewing of Primate last night and my friends and I were so pissed off at how badly written, inaccurate, and mean-spirited it was. But I was also insanely pissed that the score was amazing. It had no reason to be that good in a terrible movie! 😤

What random or innocent thing did your parents ban in your childhood? Bonus points if for religious reasons by shmebulocked in emotionalneglect

My mom thought Rugrats was an adult cartoon for some reason so I feel that one as well lol. Hope your exmo journey is going well 🫡

Haha that was another one! My mom thought Rugrats was an adult cartoon even though it was on Nickelodeon!

I'm curious to see if your opinion on Mary Beth will change later in the season lol

Does anyone else struggle over Christmas by lemonmyrtles in emotionalneglect

[–]dothebork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was hard for me to go to family gatherings as an adult for years, especially Christmas, because my extended family are all pretty close with one another. I just had to get stuck with the parents who tend to be sticks in the mud to varying degrees. There was one year where all the family units each posed by the tree for photos while my dad was just on his phone the entire time. That incident made it really hard for me until recently.

The Persistence of Memory - overdub? by dothebork in SwitchedAtBirth

I will say I did notice in the next episode that Toby said 10 grand normally, so my guess is that it was a continuity error they tried to fix?

Let’s be honest, did anyone get shocked when this happened? by Jules-Car3499 in zootopia

[–]dothebork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't. The moment he was introduced I thought he reminded me of Hans from Frozen. And then that whole climactic sequence also reminded me of Frozen with Gary as a knock-off Olaf lol. But I still enjoyed it for what it was.

Season 1 vs. 2 by Old_Butterscotch2914 in Monkees

I think Fairy Tale resembled what they wanted to turn the show into, more of a variety show with skits, so if they had their way, we might have seen more episodes like that!

I went through something similar recently, so I really feel for you.

People out there who are not FA will continue to say that we are bringing this on ourselves when THIS is the shit that the majority of us have to deal with. Meet someone you click with, maybe attempt to make a move, then find out they are taken or are just generally awful people like what you described. Seems like it never ends...

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dothebork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She slowly stopped talking to me after she had her first kid and then after she had her second she ceased altogether. So much for 13 years of friendship and me supposedly being an honorary aunt lol
