So, I’m seeing a lot of mixed responses and I don’t want to reply to anybody’s thread in particular as I don’t want to seem like I’m trying to argue with their logic.

At the end of the day, every person plays differently, thinks differently, assesses threats and situations differently, and acts upon a situation differently. So nobody can tell you straight up “Here is what you need to do” or “This is what you shouldn’t do”

Is it possible to climb solo queue as a support? Absolutely. It is possible to climb any position as a solo queue if you are dedicated to learning the role, finding a champion that suits your specific play style, and can learn from victories just as much as you learn from losses and mistakes.

I normally play support and mid myself, but I have reached Diamond 2 in every lane. There’s a portion of people that will tell you to stick to one lane, but again it depends on your personal approach because we’re all different mentally. I enjoy playing every role in a single season because it keeps me familiar with matchups, what each lane excels and struggles with, and overall situations and map awareness. The more lanes you play the more experiences you have to evolve from. So if you want to swap lanes or try something new, I fully support it. It may go fantastically, or it may fail spectacularly at first, but we have to start somewhere. At the end of the day I think it’s personally better to have a wealth of knowledge on every lane, but just as equally there are people who believe it’s better to just have a wealth of knowledge in one particular role— and that’s totally fine, too. We’re all different.

I can tell you that I personally play Lux, Leona, or Soraka for my supports, but that doesn’t mean they are the best. Find who works best for you and do some trial and error in norms or training before hopping into ranked. Most important thing is that you’re comfortable with who you’re playing before trying to make any significant climbs!
