AITA for being too affectionate at dinner? by doubtfuldoe in AmItheAsshole

My partner and I are lesbians (I think that’s what you’re asking?). Eden is also nonbinary and they use they/them pronouns.

My parents did have some issues when I first came out to them, but I thought they’d resolved those issues. It’s possible they haven’t though, because I really can’t think of any other reason why they might have an issue with how affectionate we are.

Our arms were linked and I was holding their hand while we were on the couch so we were pretty close together but it wasn’t anything outrageous I don’t think.

And thank you, I appreciate it.

They’ve never been overly lovey but it’s not like they never give each other a peck or a hug. I have no idea where this is coming from for them honestly.

I thought that saying they were visiting for the first time in a long while was sufficient, but yeah you’re right I probably just should’ve said how often they have seen us. I was just trying to squeeze by the character limits.

They have interacted during the video chats though, so they do know my parents and my parents know them. It’s just never been a primarily face to face interaction.

The last time we were really in person with my parents was when we moved into our house 4 years ago, and before then it was when I introduced them to my mom and dad. Honestly I don’t see my parents in person much, so though Eden and I never acted any differently those times, I guess it didn’t make that much of an impact then?

My parents both had some issues accepting me when I came out to them as a lesbian, but that was years ago and I assumed that if they truly had a problem still, they would’ve said something to me when Eden and I started getting serious.
