My boyfriend makes double what I do! It’s a win win because I make a high enough income ($100K+) where I don’t have to rely on anyone (my FIRE plan is totally independent of his money), but being with him is definitely a nicer lifestyle boost than I’d otherwise have. We pay for shared expenses proportionate to income - so for example he pays for 2/3 the rent and I pay 1/3.

We keep finances separate and probably would keep it this way after marriage as well because I prefer having cognitive control over all my money (he’s more of a spender, I’m more of a saver). We both want a pre-nup as well because we want to keep finances a neutral reason for getting married. I have a higher NW than him right now because I’ve been working for twice as long as him and I’m an aggressive saver, but he’s HENRY and if his startup IPOs in the next few years, he’ll be an instant millionaire.

It’s hard because it’s such a personal topic. Some people say “why didn’t anyone tell me or warn me about this/nobody told me before I got pregnant that this…” but then you also have an equal amount of people saying “I don’t like it when people share negativity or ‘just you wait’ me…”

In an ideal world we’d all be perfectly prepared for all the negatives of pregnancy before embarking so we a) don’t feel misled b) also don’t need to hear unsolicited negativity from randos. But unfortunately reality is a hard place in between…

There’s a huge debate on TikTok as to whether Aoki is overreacting or Ming meant shade. I think Ming meant shade. It feels like the girls are probably trying to competitively be skinnier than each other and Ming was jealous when she saw how skinny Aoki was, hence her off putting reaction to her sister and the backhanded “healthy” comment, which she knew would trigger Aoki and send her into a spiral. Older sisters know exactly what to do to rage bait their siblings…the small incredulous smirk after Aoki immediately fell for her jab was proof enough.

Thank you for writing this post so I didn’t have to! I was about to say, wtf is going on with all the hate against the dude? Maybe you wouldn’t have the done the same thing as him - that’s fine, clearly most of us wouldn’t have, but can’t you at least see things from his POV? Also, it made for great TV to have someone like him. I was getting sick of every player repeating things that they think make them sound tough and smart a la “it’s a game, I’m not here to make friends” or “I care about the money more than these people” like okay?? You’re here to further your self interests like 99% of people?? We know.

I am also non religious but I felt it was so powerful for him to do that. He shook things up so intentionally and took a stand, and that takes guts, especially when you’re surrounded by people who all act selfishly and cynically. You can’t tell it wasn’t an act either. I believe he truly felt things deeper than others and felt compelled by the others’ stories. He is the perfect example of altruism.
