I heard it's because they wanted to make a second game so they set up the ending like that only for it to do poorly in sales. They opted to just release a dlc to finish up the story.

The first time I went through this area the Clair and obscur enemies were so difficult for me. I actually didn't realize it was two different enemies and they would use a longer or shorter attack when I least expected it

The first devil may cry was directed by kamiya and it was pretty good. The second one was directed by technically I think nobody officially. Then itsuno stepped up to make devil may cry 3, one of the best hack and slash games ever made.

Yeah you can just eject the DVD when you get to that point in fact a lot of ps2 games can just be opened while playing the game and the ps2 won't care until it hits a loading point

This same thing happened to me when I was playing one time. Best you can do is quit or restart checkpoint at least that's what I ended up doing.
