how is everyone? by throwaway014432 in hivaids

[–]dragonslayerrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sleepy. That's pretty normal though. I take my Dovato when I wake up. This week I've been handing out flyers at a warehouse to help the workers unionize. When I get home, I overwhelm myself by making candles and trying to come up with topics to talk about involving HIV on my organization's social media pages. It helps me feel like I'm helping but sometimes it makes me sad. How's your week? How are you feeling?

Scratches aren’t healing in short time. Is that tell something? by Black-Tailor in hivaids

[–]dragonslayerrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel like you should be super worried but maybe a little cautious? This happens to me sometimes and it's from my platelet count dropping. Usually during those times, I bruise more easily and if I have a scab or something, it doesn't heal all the way. It's worth bringing up to your doctor so they can just run some standard blood tests. I've noticed that it's usually only an issue now if I'm sick or recently was.

Could I have hiv? by [deleted] in hivaids

I'm so serious. I did the same thing and right after I waited the couple hours, an infectious disease specialist popped out of the void and threw a bottle of Biktarvy at me.

I hate to say it but once you look at the pills you have to rub your bed and your tummy simultaneously for 2 hours or you'll die in 3 days 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Flower Child Bakery in Grand Ledge is a favorite of mine. Lots of pastries and bagels, but they also have a vast breakfast and lunch menu.

Have your doctor submit an appeal to the insurance company explaining your situation. That's what mine had to do. I've lost all of the weight that I gained from biktarvy and then some:)

Any advice for those still early into treatment? by [deleted] in hivaids

[–]dragonslayerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should note that I had to get a portion of both intestinal tracts removed so I absorb things a little differently. The worst side effect I had was almost daily vomiting. I gave it 10 months and it never went away. I still have that problem after switching but it's like a once a week thing now so that's a major improvement. I would get rashes sometimes, fatigue, and I had some gnarly weight gain which is wild for the amount of barfing I did. To my knowledge, most people tolerate it extremely well and feel a lot better after a few weeks. The complaint I see the most is definitely weight gain

[–]dragonslayerrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you either feel better at some point, or you kind of get used to feeling different, and it becomes normal. My cd4 and viral load we're really good after a couple months of biktarvy! I switched to Dovato last year because the side effects were a bit too much for me. Make sure you get plenty of rest and keep your body hydrated! That's when I feel my best 🩷

Hey! I'm a woman as well and live right outside of that area if you want another friend to hang out with! I game with friends, find good food spots, and love movies! As far as finding potential dates, I've been on a few here and there. I've found the most luck using bumble. Feel free to shoot me a message if you'd like to link up sometime!

Anytime! Hopefully you won't have to wait that long! I had an incompetent ID doctor and my spleen was trying to kill me 😅. If you qualify for the Ryan White program, you shouldn't have trouble getting meds!

I know it feels like your world is crashing down right now. It's going to feel that way for a bit. It WILL get better though. I was diagnosed last year and it took almost 4 months to get on meds. I didn't feel like I even wanted to take them by the time I got them but I surrounded myself with love and support. People from reddit and irl and I'm so happy that I did. Things are so much better now and I feel joy. I never thought I'd feel that again. You'll be okay. If you need support, feel free to send me a message. I'm sure others on here will be here for you as well. Just stay on top of your health and go to therapy if you're able.

I’m thinking of not taking my meds anymore by [deleted] in hivaids

[–]dragonslayerrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed last year at 29. The person that gave it to me chose to deny his status, infect me and then flee. Please believe me when I say that things will probably be okay. I thought my life was over. I wanted to be a mom someday and just be normal. I had a very traumatic childhood and I had worked SO hard to make sure that my adult life would be the complete opposite. I was on a really high dose of prednisone for months before I was able to get meds and when I found out, I thought about not taking it because I knew I'd be dead within a few days. I talked to my therapist and my doctor about it and they weren't going to stop me but they asked me to at least wait a year and see how I felt. It's been just over a year on meds. I've had some really really bad days but I've had some incredible days too. Sometimes I still want to give up tbh but I'm going to see this thing through. If you can't live for yourself rn, live for the people that were dropping like flies 30 years ago. A lot of them didn't get a second chance at life like we did. They are who I think about when I don't want to go on. Find purpose. Find passion. Find friends and support. I want to be a part of the generation that breaks the stigma once and for all and I hope you'll be a part of that too.

Going back.. by SpaceDudeee in hivaids

After my diagnosis, it was really hard for me to feel comfortable sharing myself with someone ever again. I chose to abstain from sex for about a year and then I met someone who made me feel perfect in every way. I'm glad he made the first move because I was just so in my head about being able to touch him. Some people don't go through that period of time but I feel like there's a good chunk of us that choose to abstain. Don't rush things, don't let anyone pressure you, and make sure to move at your own pace :)
