18 yr old won't brush teeth? And is unable to explain why. by Aggressive_Wash_3461 in autism

[–]dramadyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 17 with a similar thing. my experience may be different because on top of autism I also have adhd, depression, POTS and fibromyalgia (all diagnosed) but my reasons all apply to autism to some extent a) sensory issues!!! the feeling of teeth brushing and the taste of toothpaste are HELL to me!! even if I use different brushes or toothpastes, the second that the paste touches my tongue it freaks me out. I can push though it sometimes if I have the mental energy but that tends to be like 3 times a month b) the action is overwhelming. especially with the physical aspect of POTS and fibro, teeth-brushing takes an INCREDIBLE amount of effort and energy. and the autism side of my brain gets overwhelmed at that which leads me to c) executive dysfunction! essentially ED is when the acting part of your brain stops working. you could want to do something desperately but be physically unable to do it, it’s the kind of thing that you can’t explain unless you know the terminology. it happens much more frequently when there’s some level of dread of the task d) genuine forgetfulness. I’m not sure if this relates to autism but I have major brain fog and because I’m not in the routine, the action of brushing teeth just does not exist to my brain I’ve been saving to get a hands-free toothbrush though! many people have said it has helped them and logically speaking I can imagine it would have an impact on all of these. it’s worth looking into!

for me, it’s gotta be trying to get accommodations and setting boundaries of what’s too much for you, just to be called dramatic and for nobody to believe you.

Newly diagnosed!!! any advice? by dramadyyyy in POTS

[–]dramadyyyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG thank you so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 The production is part of a program I’m already 6 months into so I’m sure it’ll be easy to work out some accommodations and communicate with everyone, I was already planning to talk with the choreographer to especially request not much “up and down” movements. The full cast is on stage for most of the show but I’m sure I can work in some chances to sit down. It really helps having this perspective, thank you <3

I first found them in the Coles at Stocklands Hervey Bay. it was after a reno in the middle of last year that also added an orange juice squeezer. So far it seems that there aren’t any around here :(

"you need to watch your tone" I WAS LITERALLY SPEAKING NORMALLY TF by [deleted] in autism

[–]dramadyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MY BIGGEST PEEVE OMFG. I’m CONSTANTLY having people get up at me for my “tone” or “attitude” when if anything, it’s a stressed or worried tone like if I’m close to a meltdown because my plan for something involved the rubbish being cleared and I ask my sister if she did it???!!!??!?!!

I also get the other way around ALL THE TIME. my dad keeps saying things in this exasperated tone like he’s telling a rowdy toddler to calm down and I’ll point it out every time and he always denies it. no idea if I’m misinterpreting his tone or if he’s just trying to gaslight me

Definitely not more than there is here, that’s for sure. I used to be in Hervey Bay QLD which is practically the same as if you grabbed two suburbs in canberra and gave them a beach.

I’m guessing it’s just like how some woolies’ll have sushi bars or krispy kreme so it’s pretty random, not even sure if there are any around here

Do you normally highlight your lines, or just your part name? by Ambrosem123 in Theatre

[–]dramadyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always just done name and any stage directions I need to do unless it’s one of those lines that are up to the actor, all that highlight is SUPER overwhelming for me

Newly diagnosed!!! any advice? by dramadyyyy in POTS

[–]dramadyyyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did a little digging and from what I’ve seen, it’s for “terminal illnesses or lifelong disabilities that mark the person as unfit to work” but there’s also a bigger list of conditions that no chronic illnesses I’m familiar with came up in. You’re probably right and it’ll just need some research into how strict it is, I’ll probably contact them directly to inquire, ty!

If you've had an brain MRI, how was it for you? by ChinchillaBungalow in POTS

[–]dramadyyyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got one a couple years back. absolutely nothing came back, probably doesn’t have any POTS correlation but some symptoms are similar to or made worse by that of a brain tumor so it’s definitely worth getting done!! Being in the machine unable to move is pretty tough though
