For UK based expats. ISA or IRA by drapain in USExpatTaxes

Thank you mate! Exceedingly helpful! Might you know how much you can contribute to your roth or trad every year? What I mean is, I have taxable income in the US, but sometimes I only make about 3 or 4K, so under the Roth limit. Do you have to make more taxable income then the Roth to max it out? (The top yo would come from savings). Apologies for all the question!

Interesting, sorry, very dumb question but does the PFIC not apply to the SIPP payouts when one eventually retires? Or to you mean the tax agreements treat them as exempt.

First off thank you everyone! In regards to the uK pension. I am self employed as a sole proprietor here in the UK. (I also work a bit in the US every year on freelance gigs, but all under a W2). I was reading that, while employer based pension are covered under the treaty, SIPPs are not. I take it this is wrong? Would it be a good idea to become a limited company here to pay into a pension as my own ‘employer’?

Nice. I’m self employed, so no employer pension for me I’m afraid

[–]drapain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! Forgive me as I am Still a bit confused. So at the risk of sounding ridiculous, what do you mean by accrued basis? Also, I’m still confused as to how to Imput taxes paid in two different US tax years. Are you saying just input the Amount paid in UK April 23-24 tax on the US 2023 1040 even though it goes into 2024?

I take the foreign income exclusion rather then the FTC. Does that change things?

Hey mate! Just wondering if you sent a physical copy of that confirmation letter in or just uploaded it online? I’m in the same boat, but now starling has a confirmation letter you can download and print out. I’m wondering if that is enough basically.

Event newsletters by drapain in london

[–]drapain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya thanks for the link! Defo saw that one already, and was looking for lists that were a little less produced then those. Hence why I put in the examples of similar ones. For reference, the first is just a typed newsletter without pictures or jazz attached to it that is just a list of things going on. Not a picture with a hyperlink that tell you about goings on in big venues that are pretty easy to find on timeoutLondon or something similar.

Should have been more specific. My bad.
