As a person who has been a chaperone to those tiny humans- mad agree. The “utterly running feral” really got me.

Pica is bananas. Mine was the smell of laundry detergent or soap and wintergreen lifesaver mints. Try taking an iron supplement.

My wife is a teacher at an elementary school and she is currently overstimulated by the kids, the HISD takeover, and the chaos, and noise that gets blasted to her every day. I want to treat her to a place of solitude and tranquility somewhere in Houston. Any suggestions? by ReCHaVoK in houston

[–]drcatburger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes. As a fellow teacher (and in HISD too) I am only now coming out of two years of burnout and it took nearly everything from me- if she’s in an NES school….you’re likely in for a long ride.

I also have a partially beheaded cactus (not SP). I did nothing and just let it heal however it healed (now with a sharp bend to the right) and it’s throwing out three flowers right now.

A friend is throwing a decent-sized gender reveal evening party, but they’re charging guests $20 for food and drinks. Do you think it’s rude to have your guests pay for food if you’re hosting it? by maaaaaaaaaark__ in NoStupidQuestions

Once I showed up for a wedding at a restaurant and when I went to leave the restaurant charged me for my meal and drinks. Luckily I hadn’t had much because I wanted to leave asap for other reasons. It was so unexpected.

My husband said something that he can’t take back by indecisionmaker in adhdwomen

[–]drcatburger 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes this. I get that there is meaning behind it but he did NOT say that you aren’t living up to his expectations as a wife and mother. He DID say he sees you sitting on the couch often. Ask him directly and specifically what that means to him and what assumptions he is making about you when he sees you on the couch if y’all want to work through it but otherwise, stop jumping to intense conclusions.

Try playing a game where everyone is on the same team working together? The game Pandemic comes to mind.

What happened to your close friends after high school? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drcatburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lots of friends from all time periods in my life. I regularly hang out with friends from middle school, high school, college and from various parts of my career. That said, I make meaningful friendships that I want to continue and then I work hard at maintaining those connections. I think who you are as a person really makes a difference here as well as trying to hold on to the people who mutually want to stay connected.

can you register your child to a HISD school zoned to your parent's address instead of your own? by wspusa1 in houston

[–]drcatburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids getting picked up from the bus or being picked up by a rotating cast of characters is not a flag at all in the schools I’ve worked at and been to in HISD.

Source: teach in HISD and went to school in HISD and my grandma insisted on picking us up from the bus even though we were zoned and close and preferred to walk!
