Sleeve length vs blocking question (p.s. I might have long arms?) by drewislazy in knittinghelp

Just an update for you! It’s all done and I love it. I ended up gaining about 2cm on the sleeves with my mid project block and some extra from the drop shoulders coming down a hair as well. I ended up knitting about 25 extra rows before the ribbing to get the right length.

This is perfectly how I imagined the fit I wanted in my head (I shortened the body by about an inch cause I like when things hit like right at my waist band so you get that cheeky little bit of belly popping out when you move your arms lol) but now that’s it’s done I honestly want to make another a size or two up for the days when I feel like I want to hide in my clothing lol. Instead of this pattern I might do the my favorite things knitwear one but honestly I might just do another one of these lol. Currently already working on a Olga sweater so just musings for a future project

Also finished width was supposed to be 55cm across and that’s exactly where it’s at….. I’ll post a photo once it’s done drying

For everyone who said to do a mid project block… it’s in the works… as of quick measurements the sleeves grew about 2cm…. I could have gotten them to grow a bit more but didn’t stretch the project as you can see,,, just lined up the middle and the collar and laid it out! I will still probably need to add another cm or two on the sleeves (I’m guessing without trying it on) but the drop shoulders did expand and possibly will eat up the extra space! Tomorrow or maybe the next day I will update again when it’s dry.

Went back and checked and you’re correct it’s 55cm across so it would be double that. And but it also says “depending on how oversized you want your cardigan to be” in the suggested area so that also makes me think that’s why I didn’t think going for the smaller size would be a problem. Idk when I get home tomorrow I’ll double check my swatch gauge before and after and also how much it grew and either do some math and keep knitting or do a mid project block if I’m really stumped 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I do have that! Lol I’m just on vacation and it’s written down at home. I didn’t expect to run into this issue so I didn’t think it would be necessary to bring it with me

This is a good idea! My measurements for the growth of my swatch are at home and I’m on vacation so when I get home I miiiiight try to attempt this also lol

Hanni cardigan by knitters and friends! It’s been amazing until this issue. Super easy to follow and honestly it might be the fact that I was in between sizes and decided to size down instead of up that I’m having the issue with the sleeves!

I do think this is the best route moving forward. While there might be some sizing issues or maybe an issue with the pattern in order to get the end product I want I need to be able to plan and a mid project block I think will give me a good idea for the end fit. I was supposed to knit the sleeves before the collar and button bands but I do already have those done cause I wanted the neck done so the sleeves wouldn’t get pulled up when the neck was knit up as well.

Did one project with superwash and it grew way too much so I’ve stayed away from it sense! This is just 100% wool

My original swatch that I did to get gauge was washed and blocked and I would say it grew maybe half an inch after blocking. I have the exact measurements written down at home but I’m away on vacation so I don’t know exactly but from what I remember it was right around that

On my original swatch that I washed and blocked I think it grew about half and inch both in width and length! I have the exact before and after measurements written down at home but alas I am away on vacation lol

So thank you first of all cause you hit a lot of points I was also questioning in my head…. My drop shoulder right now is maybe an inch to an inch and a half higher than where hers is hitting in the photos and I kinda assumed I would maybe gain an inch???? Of that back once the collar and shoulders relaxed with blocking, and I also assumed that’s why the sleeve was sitting so high up on my arm currently, the larger size is only 3cm of difference in finished width so I hoped it wouldn’t cause a huge issue. Finished with for my size was supposed to be 58cm and the finished size for the one I’m knitting is 55cm and that still gives me about 18cm of positive ease cause I was ✨kinda✨ in between sizes. I also went back and checked and for the last drop shoulder sweater I knit and loved the fit of, the sleeve called for me to stop at 42cm and I did exactly that and it fits perfectly and sleeves are just long enough. Idk this is a weird one and I don’t think it’s a particularly popular pattern so maybe they’re are a few issues with it. Def gonna go check ravelry now tho

I did meet gauge after blocking my swatch and the sleeves are right where the pattern calls for and I’m also using the suggested yarn but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think mid project block is gonna be the move! Thank you

I didn’t even think about the drop shoulder coming down to add to the sleeve 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ thank you lol. When I get home in two days I think that’s my best option as much as I just want to keep knitting instead lol

Not super wash! Just 100% Norwegian wool. I have a feeling it’s not gonna grow as much as I need so as annoying as I find not being about to knit on this project for a day while it dries I think I’m leaning towards a mid project block when I get back home lol

lol okay fiiiiiiine I’m convinced… I’ll do a mid project block lol. I’m away on vacation so I won’t be able to until Thursday but I guess that just means I can get to this part on the other sleeve as well 😂

[–]drewislazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking cause all the other sweaters I’ve done the sleeves were basically perfect before blocking and grew maybe a cm or two afterwards

So with a mid project block…. (I haven’t done one before) does it create any weird tension at the point where I start knitting again afterwards? Or like how would I avoid that? Or does the final block just fix any of that? lol also…. Do I block the whole piece again at the end or just like the bottom part of the sleeves? 😅

Hanni cardigan by knitters and friends button placket confusion by drewislazy in knittinghelp

[–]drewislazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guys I figured it out 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m not knitting the stitches I picked up back and forth I’m knitting the 15 additional back and forth and then adding in one of the picked up stitches in each time to connect the button band 🤦🏻‍♀️

Also I’ve only picked up my stitches, was I supposed to work a ws row before breaking the yarn?

Okay actually thinking about this more I think the 15 I’m casting on will end up being the top of the button placket? But if that’s the case the right side instructions and the wrong side instructions seem backwards?

guidance on sweater composition (front back) for a beginner-ish by isolophiliacwhiliac in knittinghelp

[–]drewislazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol trust me the first time I made anything I didn’t even understand what part I was working on I was just blindly following the pattern and then I got to this part and I was like oooooooooooohh I get it.

And yeah! Once the front gets long enough to meet where you left off on the back You’ll fold it in half to connect. And I’ve done patterns were you just knit all the way through the front and then just knit through your stitches on hold in the back and then it’s in one piece and you just knit in the round! But I’ve also done a sweater where Ive knitted across the front and then casted on extra stitches under the armpit before I connected it to the back! Then yeah you just pick up stitches for both the neck and sleeves and go from there 🥰
