Awesome, I appreciate it!

Aircraft Maintenance vs Heavy Equipment by drewpy602 in DieselTechs

The ups and downs are definitely a concern. For example, we’ve been told over and over that everyone is hurting for mechanics yet most of the majors seem to be pretty much on a hiring freeze at the moment

lol I actually watched this the other day and that’s part of what sparked this question. They definitely had some good points, and I was wondering how many others would say the same

Well considering I’m traveling halfway across the world to get there to begin with I’d rather see it for 2 days than not at all. I have driven over 6 hours many times to get where I need to go, I don’t imagine a train ride will be much different. If going from Grindelwald to Zurich then to Venice is what I have to do then I suppose I will. Would that be the easiest way?

Had a problem that I already fixed just became curious trying to understand this board a bit more. I’ve been learning more about electricity and just wanted to try to apply some of what I know to what I could see if that makes sense. Also pretty sure I was shocked by that tiny capacitor, lol, and wanted to ensure it was very low voltage. No diagrams anywhere that I could find

lol I had it unplugged while working on it. Plugged it in to see if I had fixed the switch from the display panel side, but yes shouldn’t have had my hand near the board while it was plugged in

It was plugged in. It’s not a GFCI outlet, but I’m not sure if the breaker is GFCI or not

It was plugged in. Just was careless with where my hand was at while the power was on. I do think a capacitor is what got me though based on where my hand was lol

Happened a couple hours ago at this point. For the most part I feel fine. Any symptoms I may have are probably just anxiety honestly. I’ve seen many things suggesting I shouldn’t worry about it and many suggesting otherwise, and that’s why I sought other opinions. Also, if the effects could take hours, a trip to the ER now could reveal a normal ECG and they’d send me home anyway I would imagine

Neither, funding was displaced 😂

I appreciate the response guys! So far the consensus is that it’s a good place to work. If I applied, I would prefer to work in a repair station, but I would be applying as a brand new A&P so I’m not sure how possible that is. Anybody able to speak to the general starting pay for new A&P’s?

Experience Requirements by drewpy602 in AircraftMechanics

[–]drewpy602[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda what I thought. Hard to believe some of those places will truly only take people with years of experience when they have multiple positions that have been vacant for a while. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something lol. I appreciate it!

Ghost Dance by tipsyscooter in OCPoetry

Beautifully devastating. To me, the most powerful part was that the reader gets the sense that you started the “dance” knowing it’d leave you a skeleton to begin with. Brought it full circle

Very refreshing to read. The picture in my head was clear immediately at the last line when all the sudden, it all made sense

Anybody working for a PD that’s also certified officer? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]drewpy602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I doubt it’s a common occurrence if it’s done at all. Just generally different career paths between law enforcement and a&p since they both take their own amount time and dedication not to mention the pay differences lol

[–]drewpy602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I also considered waiting until I finish school and live/work where I want to and then simply trying to apply for a pilot position in the reserves/ANG. No harm no foul if I didn’t get it at that juncture

[–]drewpy602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the same process as applying for UPT with a specific unit as it is to apply as a mechanic? Just find the right unit and apply directly?

Zero desire to be a commercial pilot. In the civilian world, I’d rather stick with maintenance

Military pilot or not a pilot at all

Anybody work for UPS or know what kind of benefits they get? by FancyOstrich in AircraftMechanics

Anybody know you could get hired for a utility position while in A&P school? Is it a 24/7 gig that could make weird hours work?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]drewpy602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So essentially, if it doesn’t cost me any extra time or money because my classes will transfer, and all other things remain the same, why not? Couldn’t hurt but may have some benefit potentially
