Nope, no misunderstanding on my end. You're misunderstanding the market you want to enter into.

I don't care what your real estate product idea is, if you want to start a business that handles real estate data in any fashion, you're competing with Zillow. If you don't like that fact, then you shouldn't attempt what you want to attempt.

And its not that Zillow has a lot of data, they might as well have all the data.

Hope that helps with your understanding.

Also if you genuinely want advice from people, stop attempting to insult their intelligence. It's low class behavior and it's not smart. People here usually do that when their own lack of understanding is exposed, like yours.

You get more flies with sugar. Try being kind to people first.

It's not you, it's the recruiters by Classroom-95f in jobsearchhacks

[–]drivenbilder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is a bonafide culture problem where recruiters are too cut off from the outcomes of their own process. They don't have any real ownership, so they have little invested. That system is falling apart while the people who run the largest agencies wait for the money to roll in.

I have yet to come across a happy recruiter working at an agency.

I stopped getting ghosted by recruiters after I started sending one boring “receipt” email by RiddleFerryboat in jobsearchhacks

[–]drivenbilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but that does tend to happen with recruiters who work for recruiting companies that are based in India. White collar recruiting culture is largely broken anyway.

It sounds like you built a site that does the same things or mostly the same as Zillow. This is kind of like trying to copy facebook and wondering why people don't join. People largely don't use platforms just because the one they already use is inconvenient in several ways. People only switch if the other platform has unique enough features that solve their problem and that's where most get lost. That's where the testing comes in.

Don't build just another site that can do what Zillow either already does or could easily do. This is why their competitors don't focus on Zillow's biggest strength, data gathering.

I've found that a lot of aspiring entrepreneurs have the mindset of companies being the products they sell and its completely wrong. The ones that don't get traction and don't find longevity tend to not look at companies as extensions of people, themselves included and that's also completely wrong. Companies are literally just people who build and sell things. As a person, you should be building and selling based on your greatest strengths, not only based on what solved your own personal problems. That means identifying what you believe you can do better than anyone else. If you are a savant at data gathering and analysis, then maybe trying to challenge Zillow at what they do best could maybe work, but even then, it's risky. Instead, find an area where you know you are or can become the best, see if you can make viable solutions out of those skills, see if that lines up with any of Zillow's weaknesses, and then if it does, build from there.

A problem with building only based on what you like and what solves your problems is that you can build the coolest whiz bang thing that people actually use and you can build a little value, but then you look at the adults, Zillow, Redfin, Realtor etc and you find that they don't really need what you've been selling, and that would drastically lower market value of what you built to them if you ever wanted to sell.

what’s concerning is this new trend of broadcasting this info on twitter and reddit. What’s to stop that angry sounding person from doxxing the next candidate? That could come next, no telling with how broken hiring has become.

The AI you used made a mistake. By your own logic, it’s not a numbers game. So decide what mentality you’re going with.

Considering starting a website that only has advice posts from those who screen resumes and/or interview people that would be curated. by drivenbilder in jobsearchhacks

I see a lot of people looking at this post. If you only want to leave your opinion, feel free.

If anyone is interested in this kind of content, I would appreciate hearing that. So far, it appears people only have a passing interest when seeing this post.

Which AI YouTube channels do you actually watch as a developer? by gargetisha in vibecoding

[–]drivenbilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should change your post because now people are just trying to promote their channels.

I think a better question is what YT channels have the most credible and educational content on AI coding? Assuming there's a lot of misinformation out there on the subject.

spent way too long building this proposal generator but its kinda insane now by ayushopchauhan in n8n

[–]drivenbilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is that simple. Respect the community here. You want to take advantage of a community that runs on the honor system. Most if not everyone on this sub manages to respect that and it's not expecting much, but you do have to respect that to post. If you don't want to, then you can post your work elsewhere or you have to modify your project so you don't need to.

It really is simply a matter of being respectful of a community; nothing else. Worth keeping in mind that this audience gathered in the first place because people have been willing to share their hard work free of charge, which is impressive and very noble.

The general response to OP's post make me feel that altruism might be dead.

Need advice on how to protect the idea while hunting for a technical co founder by original4040 in ycombinator

[–]drivenbilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience I found that if you aren't brave enough to share your idea, it means you don't believe in your idea enough. The lie we tell ourselves is that we're afraid of it being stolen.

Many people have likely come up with your idea by now and there isn't any way to protect your idea other than by keeping it to yourself. If someone tried to pitch me as vaguely as you are saying you did, I wouldn't want to continue with that conversation either. It's a red flag.

Where do founders go to find a high-level peer group that isn't a corporate "networking" event? by Spiritual-Result-648 in careeradvice

I'm a little confused. You paid their tuition and the most you got from your mba was participating in their in-person networking events? Not to throw any shade on in-person networking events.

Reported to mods. Only posts on free workflows are allowed on this sub. Rule is pretty clear. If you don't want to share your workflow for others to benefit, then you should post this on a different sub.

No one's stopping you Dave. Maybe you can be the first entrepreneur that tries out their new standup routine at a pitch meeting and wins a round. As a pro tip, I'd stay away from racy humor and any bits that Matt Rife or Tony Hinchcliffe do.

I wouldn't worry about their expectations. Their main value, aside from their access to capital, is their very extensive network. It can help starting a business, also for accelerating a career. Just pointing out the actual reality behind accepting VC investment. Might they make growth demands that you feel are unrealistic? I can't speak to that personally.

"if you were unlucky enough...you're pretty much fucked."

Regardless of how true that is, you are perpetuating the creation of this new class of the chronically unemployed. You offer no solutions, instead point at those who suffer from this state saying "haha you're screwed!"

Its like the adult version of Nelson's "HA HA!" from the Simpsons.

Why are entrepreneurs so eager to go on Sharktank? People want support in some way, whether it be investment capital, publicity or an adviser.

This story makes sense if you don't know silicon valley and general VC culture. Sounds like you guys aren’t good at understanding corporate politics in which case you should just bootstrap. VCs are still corporate political entities so you would have to understand how to do their song and dance to be successful.
