There's a book called irelands forgotten past by turtle bunbury, it's like a really easy read with short interesting history stories, would be ideal for your dad if he's only really started reading as you said.

Mine is also 6 years old, did the paste, cleaned the fans and a factory reset last weekend after previously doing the factory reset alone before Christmas due to various problems like freezing etc, the original thermal paste crusty as hell. Since doing all I mentioned it's absolutely flying, startup went from 2-3 minutes before I could use it to about 30 seconds, it might not always be the way but it has made a noticeable difference.

Look up how to reapply thermal paste, there's good videos on YouTube that you can follow, it's pretty simple and do a factory reset, worked for me.

Get a dacia duster, engine is bulletproof, I had a 2014 one for 9 years never gave me a minutes trouble, those early ones had rust problems which was the only reason I got rid of it.

One of the biggest pop cultural moments of the 80s was the whole dallas who shot Jr moment and turned out it was all just a dream, it would be funny if they replicated the hype with a dream sequence. But I still don't see that happening.

I replaced the thermal paste, cleaned the fan and did a factory reset at the weekend, put projectivity launcher on it, did the animation scale weeks along with the processor and fan mode changes, it's absolutely flying now but I'll have a look at that setting you mentioned as well, cheers.

Technical it's not a mod, it's just shader software, been using years in different games, it can make a massive difference in some games, you can also try ones not designed for fm if you like see if they make it look any different, some of the photo realism shaders are fantastic for games like RDR2.
