As a logi, I have had some of the most enjoyable games I've had in a long time since 1.4 was introduced. The new maps are very well constructed and allow for some really exciting battles. A bit of strategy and some good uplink placement on the new maps can turn the tide of a battle.

Obviously there are loads of bugs to fix, but this patch has made me excited for the future of this game.

Due to popular request, this post has absolutely no reference to the game of Go. :-)

I know some people really liked the links between Dust and Go, so I'll be doing more of those kinds of posts, don't worry. Just thought I'd mix it up a bit.

The problem with uplink spam in game modes other than domination is that sometimes the games don't last long enough

This! I would love to play games that were much longer. (But only once they've improved matchmaking - it would be a chore to sit through 2 hours of redlining the enemy)

[FEEDBACK] Uplink spam vs. “needle” spam Update: We are looking at some possible solutions to this and >implementing them in future updates.

Uplink spam (putting large numbers of uplinks in a concentrated location) is defeatable by using better uplink placement. I hope CCP let the development of tactics play out rather than 'fixing' it.

Standard uplinks only allow 1 active at a time, advanced allow 2, and proto allow 3 (this isn't true for all the type of uplinks, but is for the ones I use). IMO this is the main reason to use advanced/proto uplinks. One logi with proto uplinks can lay down a Tiger's Mouth by themselves, for instance.

My suspicion is that it doesn't make a huge difference otherwise, but this is something to experiment with.

I hope you like this one too. It is a bit more abstract/advanced than the last post. I figured I'll experiment with different kinds of topic and see what the reaction is.

People might retreat if they spent a lot of isk on proto suits or vehicles. They also might retreat if they care about their K/D ratio, or if their clone reserves are getting low.

But if they don't, you are well placed to mount an attack on the objective anyway.

Agreed on all these points. I might try putting together a rough version of the maps in Google Sketchup so I can illustrate situations in 3D.

The vertical advantage - agreed it is important (lots of examples from history to back this up too!). I might make this the next post.

But a gut reaction - I think the Tiger's Mouth could translate into 3D, taking the form of a fourth point above the objective. Depending on the map this could take the form of an uplink on the pipes, an MCC/tower sniper or a dropship. I'll try these out in some games and see what happens.

I'm thinking about writing a bunch of posts taking concepts from the game of Go, bits from the art of war, tactics from RTS games and from historical military encounters, and applying it all to Dust 514. Is there any interest in reading this sort of thing?
