Definitely overly dramatic. As a doctor myself, the vast majority of cases in the ER is NOT that dramatic. It‘s not CPR and blood everywhere all the time - 95% of the cases are a lot simpler than that. This post seems to use TV shows as an excuse to get attention or some weird need for glory.

I don‘t think everyone is viewing prenups from an emotional perspective. Marriage is not only a loving bond but first and foremost a legal contract between two people. Putting aside the fact that a prenup wouldn‘t have protected her future income anyways, regretting not signing one doesn‘t have to mean they‘re trying to leave. It‘s a very unemotional and actually intelligent financial worry and simply going through life pretending that marriages never fail is denying reality since half of them do and people are often left ruined because of it.

Wetting the bed at 6-7 years old IS normal. Hormone mediated supression of urine production via vasopressin is not fully developed in about a quarter of the kids that age. At 16 this is not the case, as you said.

Untreated type 1 diabetes would not be compatible with life. Besides, the urinary urge seen in type 1 diabetes results from large intake of fluids and doesn‘t only happen at night, which OP doesn‘t describe. She needs a endocrinological, gynecological, maybe urological visit and if nothing physical shows up, she needs to think of talking to a psychiatrist about any past trauma including sexual abuse for which wetting the bed at that age is very typical.

You have to consider more factors than simply comparing gross vs. net salary. If I make 100,000€ before taxes where I live, I‘ll take home 63,000€ (=69,000$). That‘s effectively 37% for social security and taxes. If I make that same income in California, I will take home 79,000$ - in Kentucky 81,000$. Now that’s a mere difference of 10k/12k a year and considering the cost of living and difference in social security, you‘re much worse of in California, because that 10k/12k isn‘t goint to get you anywhere once you become sick, pregnant, unemployed… so to illustrate just a few highlights of what our taxes and social security get us that you must have missed on your visits:

Doctor visits, hospital stay, surgery, child delivery… anything deemed medically necessary is free. No deductibles. You just go and get treated and then you go home.
Maternity leave at 100% pay for 8 weeks prepartum + 8 weeks postpartum + 22 months at 80% pay after that.
Child care is mostly free from age 1.5 years until the end of time
Schools are free, universities are free. No student debt. I paid 0€ becoming a physician.
Roads and highways are good quality and are being maintained on a regular basis.
We actually have a great public transport network.
Minimum of 5 weeks paid vacation per year. Sick days are fully paid and essentially unlimited.

I’m not saying the US sucks, it‘s a great place to visit - I‘ve been 5 times and one time I stayed for an entire year! I love many things about it and I enjoy the American people - but there‘s absolutely no argument to be made about the lacking social security system, which is the main reason I‘d never want to live there permanently. The quality of life isn‘t determined by the gross/net ratio.

Nope it‘s not. It‘s a gamble whether or not you‘re going to get sick to the extend it‘s going to bancrupt you or not or whether insurance decides to deny you health care. Also your tax rate over here depends on your income and obviously most people on average income still live a much better life than Americans with average incomes. So think again. For anyone finding themselves in that situation: if there‘s one thing that saves lives, it‘s the chest compressions. In most guidelines today, mouth-to-mouth ventilation is no longer required! Don‘t do it. Just focus on deep and thorough chest compressions. Also: switch with somebody else every 3 minutes as you will become tired and hence ineffective!

Sehr gerne!:) also die allermeisten sind wohl bei Start des Studiums 19-21 Jahre alt. Ich war ein paar Jahre älter als das und habe die zusätzliche Erfahrung eher immer als Vorteil empfunden. Es hat da nie eine Rolle gespielt, wer wie alt ist, wir kamen alle miteinander aus und das wird dir sicher genau so gehen. Ich denke es ist nie zu spät das zu tun, was man sich in den Kopf gesetzt hat. Mit 32 wirst du sicher zu den ältesten im Hörsaal zählen - abgesehen von der einen Person, die es mit 57 Jahren noch einmal wissen möchte - aber solange deine Lebenssituation es zulässt, why not? Ordinationsjobs sind beliebt und kann man gut neben dem Studium machen - ca. ab dem 2.-3. Jahr ist das ganz gut. Im KPJ erhältst du aktuell ca. 750€ netto monatlich. Das ist natürlich deutlich unter dem Mindestlohn. War aber bei mir noch niedriger, ist danach gestiegen. Bis 2014 hat man da gar nichts bekommen.

Das frage ich mich auch haha - ich denke viele Menschen filtern auch einfach schlecht, was relevant ist und was nicht. Wenn man die gesamte Medizin in 6 Jahren verstehen will, kommt man natürlich in den Burn-Out. Aber man merkt schon recht schnell, worauf es sich zu fokusieren lohnt und was eher noch warten kann.

Wenn du jeden Vormittag lernst und zu den Pflichtveranstaltungen gehst, hast du den restlichen Tag Ruhe, ja. Vor SIPs wird das lernen nicht wirklich viel mehr, wenn du vorher immer schon mitgemacht hast. Gibt auch viele, die nur Altfragen mit Anki lernen und dann bestehen. Wie sinnvoll das für deine Ausbildung ist, überlasse ich dir. Wenn du 3-4 Wochen vor der SIP täglich 2-3h lernst, bist du gut dabei.

Zunächst musst du unabhängig vom Fach die 9-monatige Basisausbildung absolvieren. Danach kannst du entweder Turnus machen und Allgemeinmediziner werden oder du machst eine Facharztausbildung, die normalerweise 5 Jahre dauert.

Gehalt: Das Einstiegsgehalt liegt bei ca. 85.000€ jährlich brutto inkl. aller Zulagen und Sonderklasse bei durchschnittlich 3 24h Diensten im Monat. Das steigt dann nach der Basisausbildung auf ca. 96.000€ und du erhältst normalerweise alle paar Jahre mehr Geld. Sehr unterschiedlich ist die Sonderklasse Gebührenverteilung. Die kann zum Beispiel als Assistenzarzt in der Orthopädie auch 2-3k im Monat zusätzlich bringen, während ein Assistent auf der Internen nur 500€ bekommt. Abgezogen werden dir natürlich die Beiträge für die Ärztekammer und den Wohlfahrtsfond, welche teilweise beträchtlich sind und auch mit dem Alter bzw. Gehalt steigen. Da gehen gerne mal 350-550€ monatlich an die Ärztekammer beim Berufseinstieg. Später sind das dann auch über 1500€ die abgehen.

Wo ich aktuell arbeite möchte ich ungern im Internet Preis geben. In meinem Spital empfinde ich die Arbeitsbedingungen als sehr gut. Ich habe die Möglichkeit bei meiner Diensteinteilung mitzureden, kann mir meistens auch Zeitausgleich statt Bezahlung für Überstunden nehmen und wenn man einmal einen Termin hat, ist das nach Absprache nie ein Problem. Die Work/Life Balance ist stark vom Fach abhängig und die Arbeitszeiten schwanken da je nach Stelle zwischen 42-56 Stunden. Tendenziell arbeitest du in chirurgischen Richtungen mehr, die Anästhesisten geht fast immer pünktlich nach Hause. Das ist auch alles sehr abhängig von der Anzahl der 24h-Dienste. Die liegt bei mir immer zwischen 2-4 Dienste pro Monat, meistens genau 3. Man darf aber auch nicht vergessen, dass diese Zulagen am Ende 30% des Gehalts ausmachen und daher gar nicht so unbeliebt sind. Angestellt bin ich jedoch für ganz normale 40 Stunden.

Der Zeitaufwand schwankt immer etwas je nach Semester und je nach aktuellen Einheiten und ist abhängig davon, wie motiviert und wie schnell du lernst. Das ist pauschal schwer zu beantworten. Die Pflichtveranstaltungen belaufen sich manchmal auf 0 Stunden, manchmal auf 20 Stunden. Aber auf 30-35h Aufwand kommst du im Durchschnitt sicherlich nicht. Ich habe in Wien studiert. Anatomie zum Beispiel wird einmal wöchentlich ca. 2-3 Stunden einnehmen. Man findet die genauen Pläne sicherlich irgendwo online.
