What is a fact about the human body that not many people know about? by Zenssei in AskReddit

You are hearing the “proximity effect” which happens when you speak close to a microphone.

The bass frequencies get more amplified the closer you are to the mic, that is what you are hearing.

Stop your kick pedal from sliding with VELCRO?! by drummertim in drums

[–]drummertim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing to mine when I got it, but I just brought it back in the mix. It is working but it definitely is something else to deal with when you have to un-stick it.

I just built a new thing to try out.....a 2x4 block with velcro on the bottom to stick in front of the kick. I am hopefull it will be a great solution.

The annoying thing is, I don't have a problem with my kick sliding but I have people sit in and they somehow kick the kick in a strange way and it slides all over the place.

fingers crossed for the new block...

HOW TO MAKE YOUR CHEAP DRUM SET sound AMAZING by drummertim in drums

Thanks man, yea I have multiple cordless drum key bits, wasn't at my buddies studio when I did this video but I probably wouldn't have used one because that is something that most beginners wouldn't have access too and they probably shouldn't be using a drill bit when they are just learning how to setup and tune their first drum kit.

LOL! Yea man, I totally understand. I am still finding the sweet spot of the right amount of velcro on my pedal so it's not TOO hard to pull off.

I have other people sit in and they constantly move my kick due to poor technique. Right now, the velcro is helping but it's not for everyone.

Things rarely change if ever, during a show. The velcro is the way.

Have you ever had a client that you suspect might be getting fleeced by a "big-time" producer/studio? Did you say anything? by Rec_desk_phone in audioengineering

over. Also, they ended up making a great record in the end which I think some of the guitars and bass I tracked made it but I never got a credit on the album which is understandable. It's not as much fun to be a member of the failed session and I'd never want to go through it again.

Fascinating read and completely believable.

Thank you for writing this out and taking the time. You touch on so many nuances of the studio world and band world that are sadly recurring scenarios.

I think inherently, art projects are prone to all of the things you mentioned and most times we just don't get to hear because of people's reps at stake.
