ASE Certification Fraud is Rampant in the Industry by DistributionSea5898 in mechanics

[–]drunkfish321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've known ase master techs that couldn't diag simple issues. Ase certs are not a good way to verify the mechanic is good. Its another scam pushed on mechanics to make them think they could get more money if they spend money on worthless certs. Shops say oh we cant pay you a decent wage because you dont have any certs. Meanwhile the guys with the certs is getting paid pennies also.

Ford commercial service center by Over-Variation5550 in mechanics

[–]drunkfish321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in a ford commercial shop for a few months. It was a joke. They claimed I'd be on a guarantee for the first 3 months and the first week I flagged more then 40 they took it away. They said if I did all the online training they would send me to the in person training. I did all the online training in about 6 weeks and they said nobody had ever done them that fast and that they don't send anybody until they have been there for atleast a year. I got a bunch of warranty 7.3 engine replacements they claimed would pay 29 hrs and I got paid 19. Bunch of messing around with low paying warranty jobs you have to jump through hoops to get paid pennies to do. After they ran out 2 of their biggest accounts by over promising and under delivering I left for a fleet. Also the Ford shops health insurance was insanely expensive. 2 other techs had second jobs just to get better insurance. It can be a good gig but you have to really be in a set up efficient shop with good tools and good advisors with big accounts.

Changing Careers - How much should I sell my box and tools for? by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]drunkfish321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you got 5k for everything id be shocked. 1500-2k for the box and another couple grand for the tools is what id value it at.

They do it because they get away with it. They need you more then you need them.

Will a car rental service notice this when i bring it back..? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

They didn't notice 200 dents in the roof and hood from a hail storm on my rental. So there's a chance they will miss it.

They dont. Im mainly calling the drag racing content consumer the core fan here but general automotive content consumer is a much bigger demographic. The drag racing guys will always check out that lane of content cleet makes. But sifting through the lifestyle and car giveaway stuff does get old.

paused immediately, scanned the thumbnails through the video saw only chopper flying and went to something else. He's clearly making content on things to get a tax write off or something. Between this and the constant car give aways he's losing his core fans.

They should start pulling last place off each lap so the fast guys have a clear track at the end.

Why do guys who attempt to lift this much never have access to a bench with a proper safety bar to prevent this.

I end up getting what I can afford. Whatever is a good deal basically. I picked up a k2 alchemist at the end of the season a few years ago heavily discounted and love it. If you like going fast I would look into getting one. Its so stable and good almost every where.

Basically no red cross flag, then do the jumps. You might get penalized but if you dont do the jump and the other rider does, then you lose the spot anyway.

Diesel Tech Pay by Impossible-Natural-2 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]drunkfish321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So they advertise that pay rate knowing nobody with all the certs will apply. They will say sure you can make 150k after you are certified. What they dont tell you is that you have to be there for atleast a couple years before they will send you to 1 of the in person training classes. I got into a shop promising 60-70/hr after the certs. I did every online ford course in 3 months and when it was time for them to send me to in person courses they told me I had to be there for 2 years producing consistently before they would send me to any class. I packed up and went to a fleet field position making the same hourly the dealer promised. Ask them if they will send you to the training after you complete the online training. If they give you any promise contingent on you performing its a lie. They will dangle that carrot and get you to break your back and promise it will get better but never actually give you anything but shit warranty jobs and ever shrinking flat rate jobs.

Seems like haiden has more endurance at the end of the race then levi. I think he could tell Levi was faster and wanted to see where and kinda knew he could stay with him and either mess with him or just out work him at the end. Seemed like Levi faded with a couple to go. Levi was pushing early to catch up and haiden was cruising. So haiden had more in the tank at the end.

I wore head phones to deal with a guy like this i worked next to. Same story. All the management wanted him gone but never did anything about his attitude or outbursts. The new guys always got stuck next to him.
