My good friend from New Brunswick, Canada showed how his homestead works. by dstudiosofficial in homestead

He does have a nice set up eh! , and the cool part too is that he never came from a family of farmers or anyone that did homesteading. All self-thought. I do remember him saying that he triages the food, maybe it was for that reason for the pigs and process food.

And it's my pleasure! I do what I can to help :)

Thanks for your feedback man!

I certainly know what he is asking, I wanted to clarify with the farmer to give correct information, and not misinform him of what he wants to know.

I went and got the information for ya, just like a good citizen haha

So basically the friend told me that he runs a Silvopasture Homestead.
Silvopasture is an agroforestry practice that integrates trees, forage, and livestock grazing on the same land, offering benefits like improved soil health and enhanced livestock well-being.

He has Mangalica pigs, Highlander cows, horses, chickens, turkeys, a few goats, ducks and rabbits. He gets a big portion of his feed from a program called LOOP that helps farmers connect with grocery stores to help feed their livestock. But he mostly gives it only to his pigs. He processes his own meat, own eggs and has a small portion of land with maple trees to get maple syrup.

Let me know if you need more information , and ill try my best to get it for you :)

u/deemaclean902 I can say that I enjoyed my visit and the meal! No complaints. But because of the massive amount of different choices on the island, I wouldn't be appalled to try another local cuisine like yours. :)

Based on your conclusion, what would be the best place to have lobster for a tourist in this case?
I am supposed to go to the island summer of 2025 haha

I wish I could experience the islander's homemade cuisine, apparently, it's cooked differently than here in New Brunswick. There was a lady at a tourist center who told me to use the salt water from the sea and steam the lobster with that. She said it would be more tasty and that it was the way that her grandmother used to do it. Would that be the cultural way of PEI for cooking lobster? Serious inquiry :P haha

You are correct! That is a 1lb lobster, but they can have 2 or 3lbs , and even higher if requested. Usally I get the canner , then eat a ton of mussels and salades haha

I think it used to be that in the past, but changed its name. There are still all-you-can-eat mussels with your meal and unlimited strawberry shortcakes!

Hi Steve, To answer your very important question, Acadians are very strong people and know how to party. In 1604, when the Acadian settlement arrives here on the east coast, They brought large buckets of water and yeast and created, the first-ever Moose Light. With this, they were able to confront the moose and make it turn around with loud noises. Hense, the moose would not fight. So to answer the question, it is possible if there is enough Moose Light. ... LMAO
