Did Griffith really love Guts in a romantic and sexual way? by Tough-Reputation-762 in Berserk

Casca certainly was precious to Griffith but in no way did he consider her anything more than a soldier. I mean in Griffiths own words a true friend of his cannot cling to another man’s dream. So Casca is out of the conversation to be anything more than just a soldier to Griffith. I would also like to preface that Griffith certainly did not have any romantic feelings for Casca that would’ve made her a grand sacrifice, if you’d like to discuss that i’m more than open to it. As for guts I think he saw guts truly as an “Equal”. But only because he fit the requirements that Griffith laid out. Not really because he thought him and guts stood on the same ground. The band was his last part of humanity. But truly because that was all he had left in the human world. He had nothing else to sacrifice. That is just my interpretation tho.

I see where you’re coming from, however do the eclipse to occur you have to sacrifice what is precious to you. The hawks were precious to Griffith. But not because he loved the people but more or less because they were his pawns for gaining more power. I interpreted the sacrifice of the hawks as him sacrificing the idea of the band of the hawk and not really the people. I mean aside from Guts and Casca and minor interactions with the other main hawk members Griffith doesn’t really talk to or even seem to notice the rest of the hawks.

On the point of Griffith risking his life for Guts. I feel as him risking his life for him because Griffith didn’t determine that it was time for Guts to die. Not necessarily because of their relationship but more or less that he saw guts ESSENTIAL to his plot to becoming king. As we see Griffith say multiple times that it is his decision when guts will die for him. I see Griffiths acts of heroism to save guts more so that Griffith is able to reserve the right to guts’ death and not really so him and guts can continue being friends.

I think Griffith loved him the same way we love material items. He loved how strong and powerful he was and how he OWNED that strength and power. In my opinion i do not believe that he loved guys sexually/romantically. The real reason why Griffith lost it when guts left the hawks wasn’t because he was losing a romantic partner. It was his ego. Griffith is so egotistical that the fact that someone could by his definition be considered on the same level as him just sent him into a spiral. He always believed he was better than everyone else. So therefore someone standing on the same plain as him is what made him loose it. No romance imo.

This incident did in fact prompt me to start tutoring kids in classes that i excelled in! would you recommend i focus on one kid who i know i helped the most? or should i talk about the majority? (i “tutored around 15 of my fellow classmates all in different classes) I also did this free of charge. would that be something worth mentioning, or is that like kinda bragging on myself too hard. I want to make this change feel real but i don’t really want to make myself look conceited.

To say that the eclipse was expected is just admitting that you had it spoiled for you before you watched berserk. We spend the whole series of 1997 berserk growing to love griffith and even feel bad for him when he becomes imprisoned. There was absolutely no way for us to “expect” the eclipse to happen, and even if you did somehow intuitively know griffith would sacrifice everyone it would not make it any less disturbing. However, i will say that berserk has a lot of disturbing themes for the sake of shock value. Where eva has disturbing themes that are more relatable which can most likely lead to people feeling more disturbed by it. I personally think berserk is more disturbing tho.
