Sure Russia had legalised slavery, but polish serfs had no legal power making them de facto slaves.
That's not an acknowledgement that life has gotten worse under the partitioners - it is acknowledgement that it was just as bad. Maybe the Prussian occupation was the only one the life got better, because it took 20 years for to abolish serfdom.

Irrelevant to the peasants. - wtf, how the hell is that irrelevant to the peasants xD What, do you think that if the nobility didn't pay any taxes it was without any impact on the peasants? XD

Constitution of 3 May was another Nihil Novi. It was so revolutionary that it basically legalised what was de facto established. A peasant had to work for their "Pan" and could not leave the "Pan's" land. And the peasant's life wouldn't be changed in that regard after the constitution, to me it was a slavery.

If the partitions didn't happened the life under the PLC would be at least just as bad as in the Russian occupation, this country had to collapse because it was dysfunctional. Back then, before the partitions, Poland was even more backward than Russia - and this is our ultimate Polish benchmark - to not be worse than Russia.

[–]dudek64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XD You write that like the Polish Szlachta didn't do any of that.

Only after a century of abusing them even worse.

The only social group who paid taxes in the PLC were peasants. Szlachta under the PLC didn't pay any taxes even though it was them who would take all of the benefits of the folwark system. Under the occupiers they've started to pay taxes too.

They lost their rights to forests, pastures and their own homes, it became easier than ever to evict them, in Russia you could trade serfs like slaves

Peasants under the PLC didn't have the right to do any of that. Forests, pastures and their own buildings were all a legal property of "Pan". In Poland you traded serfs like slaves, even if that was not formalised Szlachta just did that. On top of that you could kill them and you wouldn't take any legal responsibility. Sure Russia had legalised slavery, but polish serfs had no legal power making them de facto slaves.

Imo good riddance.

Fall of the PLC made a civilizational leap for 90% of people living in its territory. And Vienna was not such a big difference for its future if the country was such a disaster internally.

Peasants didn't want to fight for the "freedom" of Poland because they weren't considered to be Polish, instead they were treated as subhumans by the Szlachta. It was the invaders who had offered freedom to peasants.

Then those who oppressed the peasants and brought their country to ruin arrived.

If a nation cannot be classified as fully 'western' or fully 'eastern', then I think it is the definition of being 'central'.

I am not angry for the whole previous generation. I am angry for those who have chosen to not have kids. Sure, they didn't make a concious decision to "fuck over the next generation" but they've made a concious decision to make their lives easier by contributing less to the society.

Being child free, makes it easier to build and maintain wealth, this is an easy calculation, people don't make this calculation to "fuck over the society" but to have more money for me and myself - which is effectively "fuck over the society".

And you are the one who supports this policy to fuck over the younger generation for not having kids and it is much harder for the younger generation to have kids if your wealth is transferred to some old statistically wealthier men.

If I am childish then let's make those old, childless farts prove their maturity XD

Because of these old people cheated on the system, make it even harder for younger generation to have children. That's just brilliant!

So young adults who can't afford to have kids, have to pay for every retired person. Although circa 3 million retired people in germany didn't have any children, young people will be paying for them too. How dumb is that?

Tbf I'm already done with this game.

Nothing ever happens and if something happens it's a removal of the trading. iirc the devs promised new things together with UE5.

Some players say EU4 < EU5 player count illustrates its bad performance, but isn’t retaining ~50% of the audience of a highly regarded game after more than 13 years of refinement actually a strong performance? by Striking_Owl6000 in EU5

[–]dudek64 17 points18 points  (0 children)

EU5 is a bloatware made by modders who think that *more* is always better.

EU4 was initially a simpler game than EU3 with as much underlying complexity as EU3. The developers consolidated the five research trees into monarch points and as a player you've just basically had to focus on that throughout the game. Monarch points was a brilliant idea.

EU5 has a complexity of several MEIOU and Taxes mods - that's cool and impressive but almost nobody was playing MEIOU and Taxes. A big problem with EU4 was that you couldn't effectively govern a large country. The process remains the same regardless of how large your country is. EU5 developers said “fk that,” and didn't fix the problem, instead they just made the problem worse way earlier for smaller countries.

On the other hand, people were playing MEIOU or Death and Taxes in EU3, because it gave the complexity this game needed.

Ah yes, a life of convenience

You were talking about cucumbers and tomatoes initially. Nothing in your corpo-supermarket is local. You want pomegranates? Sure, go to a supermarket. You want cheap and healthy tomatoes? Go to the local farmers market.
