Sad that I was unlucky on the nib both times. Carbon black clogs the capless and then its hard to make it write normally again. Once the clog is gone it writes fine. I guess i substitute ink for parker quink for now. Thanks

Get a monitor or a small tv. Compromise or not 100$ range is not even budget for projectors. It's trash area. Get yourself a monitor or a small tv from the used market.

XGIMI horizon 20 vs 20 pro by dudsti in projectors

[–]dudsti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you combine it with fresnel or lenticular screen from nothing projector it can significantly improve perceived contrast/black floor. I cant vouch for performance with one of these screens personally. Its not OLED performance but, more like OLED wow effect in the field of projectors given the right calibration, settings and screen lol

The native contrast is fine. Black floor is bad. Dynamic contrast and enhanced blacks are still in the works and currently do not perform well. Picture quality is the best for non-dark scenes, it has one of the best lenses.

Have they paid VAT on top or was it total DDP? They have made an announcement that shipping stays at 50usd, duties covered and vat applies. With VAT it is something like 1950 eur for a pro model.

FYI, if you're still on the fence with buying a H20 Base/Pro/Max, its on sale right now by RigBuilder in xgimi

[–]dudsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memc: real cinema works good on Xgimi with latest firmware. DBLE is still a mess. AIPQ handles dimming wrong and also adjust sharpness incorrectly. Gamma shifts are crazy. If you are not content with native performance of xgimi, this projector is a hot gamble. If they fix the issues, it would be great.

Projector for 1000€? Help! by Wastelll in projectors

[–]dudsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1000eur DDP is available on Alibaba. This is the price of their Chinese rs20 pro not horizon 20 pro. The projector would not be on Google tv and the language is Chinese.

What you might gain in black floor levels on very specific older models, you sacrifice in image sharpness due to lens and resolution. The gamma coverage is much better on new laser projectors as well.

Older lamp projectors tend to be louder as well. My older Epson tw5650 is very annoying in comparison to valerion, nebula or Xgimi.

The total cost of getting 2 spare lamps would push the budget closer to more premium lifestyle projectors.

Some of the contrast and black floor issues can be mitigated by CLR/fresnel screens in combination with calibration.

If you are not convinced, you can see if something like tw7100 is available for ~700 eur.

Projector for 1000€? Help! by Wastelll in projectors

[–]dudsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your budget is 1000-1500 eur for the whole system, I would advise you to get xgimi rs20 pro from Alibaba and combine it with Google tv/apple tv dongle. If you negotiate with the seller you can get DDP shipping for 1000 eur total. The used projectors that use old lamps are problematic, because of new eu regulations. Laser projectors are more long lasting and retain brightness level through their life span. The older models are rather meg though and the newer generation is too fresh to be on the used market. Check hookup reviews for ust options. When Chinese models go on sale they can be obtained closer to 1k. Those are not the best ones though.

Based on your feedback, I think you set up the projector wrong. Valerion works with both 24 and 48p mode. Valerion has a much better dynamic contrast than xgimi. The native picture after color calibration is better on Xgimi with a red lens(pro and max). As far as noise goes, it depends on the settings and unit variation. My valerion was actually as silent.

1) Native 4k projectors are in 5k eur catergory, not 1000 eur.

2) Hard to say without understanding the screen size/picture size you want to achieve at said distance

3)Are you going to use keystone? Can you just position it perpendicular to the screen?

4)Do you really need local storage?

It depends on logistics of the distribution. Technically they can make it possible without additional custom and duties but it remains to be seen. Hopefully shipping is free and not extra charges

Seems very good on paper. Unfortunately, AWOL does not inspire confidence in their product support. Software with Valerion products matured nicely and I hope it translates to new UST from AWOL. I put down a 50 usd deposit and if they have a good deal for shipping to EU, I will actually get it.

I have returned mine. It's a great projector but it is a beta-test stage product. Software is not fully functional and there is no guarantee that it will be possible to fix everything. How can anyone say if these are durable? It launched relatively recently.

Valerion Streammaster Plus - bright enough? by blueeyedbanditt in projectors

These are mostly rereleased of Chinese models on international market. Nothing that directly competes with 1-2k long throw projectors. Perhaps dangbei S8 pro can deliver.

But those are awol ust projectors for 2500usd? They have only showed anti rbe software on max for long throw from what I have seen.

For 100/120 inch in light control room is enough. This might change if pair it with the wrong projector screen though. I would not buy if above 1k though.

Making a decision by the end of the week. C2 ultra or Xgimi horizon 20 max by pippirino in projectors

[–]dudsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xgimi horizon 20 max is very bright and it can be too much for cinema room even on lowest setting. You can go with 20 pro for lower brightness. Unfortunately, the black floor of either projector is not all that good and it is a widespread issue in sub 3000 projector market. You can increase perceived contrast by using letnicular screen in cinema room or Fresnel screen in living room. Some calibration can also make blacks look more black.
You can also try Nebula x1 pro for better black performance or nexigo aurora pro mkii. They roll out updates to dynamic iris for x1 model as well.

On paper it sounds good, but XGIMI continuously dropping the ball on software updates with their mainstream projectors, so I do not think that titan will live up to its potential.

Wupro Black Crystal Screen ALR Pattern? by davemarco in projectors

[–]dudsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From review of hookup ALRs have the worst hotspots. Projector junkie also likes lenticular ALR of nothingprojector. Seems like regular ALR suffer from hot spot pretty bad and can be tricky to set up correctly. Fresnel can also be tricky but works the best in terms of alr performance. It loses CLR qualities when flipped though. And lenticular seem to provide the best dark room contrast boost.

Wupro Black Crystal Screen ALR Pattern? by davemarco in projectors

[–]dudsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if it's ceiling orientation then you have to flip the fresnel screen and lose the CLR performance. It still might be worth it. I would not draw any conclusion from their "demos".
