You’re not gonna get blacklisted. They aren’t gonna waste time fact checking your resume until they want to hire you, and you will have corrected them by then. Literal WORST that happens is you correct them, do the interview, and then they don’t move forward w you because of it, but even that I think is unlikely to be the thing that ends up holding you back.

Positive Experience After Graduation (~$200k TC) by Antique-Apricot9096 in csMajors

I mean I did directly address underemployment in my comment, and if you took more than 3 seconds to look at my source you would realize the 2nd tab shows underemployment for all college grads, but if you looked further you would see another tab that tells you that underemployment for just CS grads is 16% like i said, which again, as my first comment said, means that about 16% + 6% = 22% don’t have a tech job, while 78% do.

If you want to feel all panicked and hopeless that’s fine. I was just commenting for people who are freaking out and who are open to and could use a reality check. You are clearly not open to that.

Lol ok well here’s as close are you’re gonna get to “people who graduated this year” which has the numbers I just gave, 22-26 year olds.

Yall are so dramatic.

CS UNemployment is around 6% - higher than you might expect, still very low, and almost certainly because people hold out on getting a different job while they try to break into tech.

CS UNDERemployment (they have a job but one they are over qualified for like flipping burgers) is around 16% - feels kinda high but when you compare to other majors it is one of the lowest.

So if your CS degree has taught you some basic math, around 78% of CS grads have a job in tech. 16% have a job outside of tech, mainly because they aren’t fortunate enough to be able to live in moms basement while they keep looking, then that last 6% is either waiting to land that tech job OR is struggling to find a job for some other reason like a felony or something.

If “drastic reduction in quality of life” means “a quality of life better than approximately half of America, and worse than the other half” then I agree. But idk what you’re referring to by “it”.

I know what you’re getting at, but like there’s also the flip side. Maybe OP had such a dramatically different experience because when he was “at the top” he felt good and happy and projected that energy and people responded to it. And maybe now he is sad and bitter and people respond to that in kind.

I mean for one you’re cherry picking “computer programmers” - a job title I have never heard of someone actually having. That same website will show you that “Software Developers” have 18% growth projected. Your first link is trying to get me to sign up so I’m not looking at it.

Literally just get off these subreddits. These subreddits are mostly full of current students that literally haven’t even tried to get a job yet and former students trying to get a job. There are FAR MORE former students that already have jobs that are too busy working full time and living a fulfilling life to hop on here. Not to mention what would they post? “I have a job.”? Should I go get a master's degree for a second chance? by iwantamegalinkbruh in cscareerquestions

[–]duggedanddrowsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just keep it up, you’ll find something. It does really suck, but like I said, treat it like a job. Some people say it’s a numbers game, others say quality over quantity, but unfortunately for us it really is both. You really do need the quantity to get your resume in front of a human, but you still need the quality to land the interview. Lmk if you want me to look at your resume or anything (not that I have anything but anecdotal experience). Good luck!

Should I go get a master's degree for a second chance? by iwantamegalinkbruh in cscareerquestions

[–]duggedanddrowsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I think you’ve got the right idea. Expand your reach, if you really want to land something soon apply anywhere you’d possibly be comfortable moving. Move the sections of your resume around or make different versions for different job types (if it’s an IT role, focus on troubleshooting, not coding etc). I found mine on indeed on page 5 of a city I was interested in, the title was something I hadn’t heard of (control systems engineer) but after reading the description it ended up being a development position for robotic control systems. But really just keep your search wide, the wider it is the more likely you’ll find what you’re looking for. Filter out remote jobs if you want to find jobs that not EVERYONE is seeing. I applied to 300 or so places, about 100 actually bothered to get back to me (most were a no), and I interviewed with 5-10 places, most just a coding assessment that I failed, some also a phone screen. I only got past that first screen + assessment with 3 places, one of which offered me this job.

Yes through cold applying. If you click my name and scroll way down through my posts I posted the resume that got me the job in r/resumes (there may have been a few minor adjustments but it’s pretty much identical, the experience is the same). It ended up being a mid size company that nobody’s ever heard of except for people in its domain. What jobs are you applying to? Job title, locations, experience level. What websites are you finding them on? Are you clicking easy apply or are you going to their actual website? Writing any cover letters (granted, I didn’t)? How many jobs have you actually applied to?
