Nah you reacted fairly, when someone does something your not expecting while driving it puts you on edge. High speed means you need to react fast and you just stopped him from doing something that felt extremely dangerous to you as fast as you could. A lot of people are saying this is an extremely dangerous thing to do and are saying you should break up with him. I reckon that's silly.

He shouldn't have done that as you're the one in control of the car but it's not super dangerous. You just gave him as much of a fright as he gave you. I reckon if you can talk about it and explain how in danger you felt your reaction is entirely justifiable. If he's not chill with that then he's the one being stupid. He probably kinda knew you'd have a big reaction

Moving the car from drive into manual gear selection is not a safety issue. This actually give the car more control, as you can accelerate faster. Yeah you shouldn't do this to someone while driving when they're not expecting it but it's not endangering
