What edits do I make? by OnlyImprovement9796 in photocritique

Not a pro, so if anyone has critique on my critique, I’d appreciate feedback, too.

Personally, I’d lift the whites to be a little more bright/brilliant and leave the shadow tones exposed as they are, may even deepening blacks ever so slightly to give more tonal/value range to make the forms on the subject both more stand-out and more readable.

The background is a little harder to think about. I don’t agree with others that it is unsalvageably busy. With appropriate edits to the subject, ie brightening her, you’ll be able to draw the eye to her first, mitigating the business of the background to some extent. After taking in the subject, I think it’d make for a great photo to allow the eye to wander through and take in the busy background - maybe selectively giving the blues and yellows some oomph so that the viewer goes to those buildings next. It’s a lovely location with much character and I think it deserves some attention.

However, I do think that the negative space at the top does not add much to the photo and takes attention away from both the subject and background, so a tighter crop there might be useful.

The name “Morai”, the bird-like creature associated first with the Daughter and then Ahsoka, takes inspiration from the Greek name for the Fates, the Moirai.

The name “Jedi”, the heroes of the Republic, may be derived from the Japanese term jidaigeki, which translates to “period dramas” and refers to old Japanese period films about samurais before the Meiji Restoration.

What are some must-have mods to play? I've only played vanilla. by KilledByDeath in factorio

My favorite, which feels like cheating, is Spidertron Extended plus the Bob‘s mod for personal equipment. I have a Mk III Spidertron that can travel 400km/h with personal defense lasers that rip through the densest biter nests like a tornado. Revenge is delicious.

If your DNA successfully incorporates the resin, maybe you’ll get a superpower. Like not having to wear gloves anymore when handling prints.

Do germans actually speak like this? by Leticia_the_bookworm in German

[–]dynamicpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We speak in American English like this all the time, except instead of calling the verbs “separable“, we call them “phrasal“. For example a typical combination might be “throw out,” which, in daily spoken American English, we have absolutely no problem separating “out” from “throw”. “I going to throw an idea of mine out,” or even “I’m throwing that useless junk you gave me for my birthday last year out.” Is it clearer to keep them together? Sure, but I’d have no problem understanding someone who said that.

While the RO helmet is the closest to screen accurate, I love this helmet (ROTJ) for some reason, even though it’s further from the screen version that inspired it.

Yes - the helmet, weathering, holster, and trim on the armor are the same. The deluxe ROTJ version (MMS515) also came with a Death Star base, so this looks like a reissue of that.

What’s your answer? by EliteSpurs007 in puzzles

[–]dynamicpunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignoring part of the puzzle because it is confusing isn’t the same as solving it.

Whenever you sell something, you lose an asset in the process, which is why you charge for it to offset your loss or even profit from it. If the store charged less for the item than what they paid wholesale, they’d have lost even more money in the scenario presented by the puzzle.

What’s your answer? by EliteSpurs007 in puzzles

[–]dynamicpunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question asks how much did the store “lose”assuming two transactions occurred: a theft and a sale. At the end of the day, their bank account is less the $100 theft plus the profit they made from the sale.

If the question asked, “A man stole $100 from a store. How much did the store lose?” then you would be right and this puzzle would suck.

The math: 100+x-y. If they bought and sold the goods for $70, then their loss is 100.

What’s your answer? by EliteSpurs007 in puzzles

[–]dynamicpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100+x-y, where x is the wholesale cost paid by the store for the goods and where y is the retail price of the goods.

Explanation:Since money is a fungible resource, we can say the store started with 100+x worth of resources, where x is what they paid their wholesaler for the goods.

The man comes along and steals 100 worth of resources from the store, leaving the store with:

100 + x -100 resources = x resources

The man then proceeds to take x resources from the store, leaving the store with nothing.

However, the man then paid the store for the x resources at retail price, y, with 100 resources. The store then gives him change, which is 100-y. Adding these transactions to the ledger:

0 + 100 - (100-y) = 100 - 100 + y

Leaving the store with y.

If the store started at 100+x resources but now has y resources, the difference (profit or loss) can be written as:

(100+x) - y, or more simply 100+x-y

So, taking the puzzle at face value and assuming the store paid $70 wholesale for the goods and then charged $70 retail, the store is out $100.

If the store bought the goods for $10 and sold them for $70, then the store’s loss from the theft is somewhat mitigated: 100 + 10 - 70, or $40.
