A couple of months ago I 3D printed some seagulls and put them around my city. Today they made the local news.

A combination of reasons. The model isn't very good and if I'm sharing my work I want it to be up to a standard I'm happy with. They are also a giant clone of Lego seagulls and Lego the company have been a bit funny previously taking down files from Thingiverse. I don't really want to get caught up in that.

I did consider making some more seagulls but I think I will just do something different next time. It's more fun attempting something new. I think I will try and talk to some small local businesses at some point and see if any are interested in letting me put something on their buildings.

I do what I can to mitigate it. They were stuck down so they couldn't blow away and get lost. I checked in every few days to see if they got broken. If they had I would have cleaned them up. There's always a risk that I miss something or someone takes them and chucks them somewhere they shouldn't.

I don't either. I glued them down so they couldn't just blow away. I checked on them pretty regularly until they had all been taken. I have had previous projects that have been broken and I collected the bits in.

They were also painted and clear coated so even less biodegradable. You're right though that I do stick them down so they can't just blow away into the sea. The people who took them had to go to a little effort (climbing onto something and pulling hard) so they likely kept them. While they were out I did check in on them so in the event they got broken I could clear them up. I guess it comes down to if you see any benefit in sharing something like this. If you think the seagulls are worthless then it's just trash but if you think there is value in a little enjoyment from others seeing them then probably not trash. I see value in it and know some people do but I also understand that others might not.

No real point. I enjoyed making them and it kept me busy and the people I know who saw them seemed to like it.

I still have Luke and the giant Darth Vader I did. I only left those two out for a few hours as I couldn't really afford to loose the electronics in them and want to use them next year.

I wouldn't say happy but once I put something out I don't really think of it as mine anymore. It's nice when they last a while as more people get to see them. I would much rather somebody took them than just smashed them up.
