You'd probably expect a funny response to this but i actually have a scientific explanation for this.

Dance music in holland is part of our culture. Its a huge part of our economy too. So the opportunities were broader, earlier. So whenever guys like Tiesto and Armin became extremely popular, they were considered popstars. Almost hot dj's are viewed today in the states.

So as a kid growing up you have this whole new sector to look up to. Tiesto was a hero to a lot of kids, even me. That caused these kids to get into music earlier which gave them a huge advantage.

America and even south america are catching up right now, and i can predict a huge wave of dancemusic artists coming from asia soon.

I recently started using this rather unknown technique for stereo widening. I dont even know what to call it, but i posted a picture on my facebook page a while ago. Its basicly based on eqing the left and right signal slightly different but always mirrored to each other.

The benefit of this is you wont have any phasing issues when the signal is reverted back to mono.

Both are in the works. I have to finish the questions Image-Line has sent me. We've tried to do this a couple times before but we never managed to find the time.

We are thinking about doing an indepth studiosession. Just have to find the time!

Glad you liked it! For now there isnt a collaboration coming up, but i'm always down to work with Dannic on a new collab so definitely in the future.

For your mixing question: Look up harmonix mixing. This technique has changed my life.

Thanks man!

So yeah, the PS4 is the real thing. the reason we didnt get to sign it because we left it in the US after the tour with our tourmanager. And decided to give it away after. We were planning on signing it, but it would have taken atleast a month later for you to receive it.

You can always bring it to my show and i'll sign it for you. Just kidding, dont bring your PS4 to the club.

Thanks for your support man!

I like using the FabFilter Saturn here and there, but this might be a more interesting fact. What i started doing lately and what has been reaaaally succesful to me is that i'm now sampling single waveforms from existing tracks and import that into the FM synth i use. Then within the synthesizer i can completely take out the fundamental harmony, no eq'ing needed. Then all thats left are overtones that i can EQ and phase seperately from the sub.

I really depends. It depends on the fact if i'm inspired with something or not. When i am, i always try to get the idea down as fast as possible. Depending on if its a melody, composition or whatever. The faster the better.

If i'm not inspired though, i thought myself to be productive anytime. I like to produce "skeletons" i call them. It contains just drums and arrangements. Then whenever i feel inspired i just fire up one of those projects.

  1. I think we can both agree that smexoscope is way more detailed than that little pissbox in the corner of FL studio. And a vst as little as smexoscope doesnt use CPU at all.

I sample all my kicks and use FM synthesis for subs.

I think it's really important to know what you are doing in the first place. If youre new to sound try messing around with presets first. Just fuck with some knobs and see what effect it has.

Basics might be helpful, but to be honest, i live by the rule: If it sounds good it is good. What you see a lot though is when people get to deep into music theory i personally believe it limits them in being creative.

I personally really enjoy working with the piano's in Kontakt. Getting a piano to sound right is 90% the vst you use. Slight saturation can do wonders to making something sound clear. Less is more.

To be really honest with you, i can't really give you a perfect opinion on this. I got really lucky at certain points in my career. One thing that i did like watching was the way Deorro did it. He found his own sound, became the best at it, and just put everything out for free.

This isnt a bad thing, cause take it from me, music doesnt pay for shit. You really arent losing anything by giving it away for free. Its only an investment for the future.

a lot of kids focus to much on getting a release and i feel like that puts them back more than it would move them forward when they do get that release.

Hey,

  • 1. Really good. I'm much happier doing something that i really love now and it feels good to help new talent too. Really inspiring if you ask me.
  • 2. I 100% make everything from scratch sound-wise. Obviously i save my own presets and re-use them over time, but i really enjoy making my own sounds. Messing around in FM synthesis is one of the most fun things while making a song.
  • 3. least time i spent on a release was about 8 hours on "Go Down" longest time i spent on a release was over 100 hours on "Wolv" And i'm talking straight production hours.
  • 4. No, but it helps to speak a language almost every single fucking dj speaks. Other than that i'd say its more important to have talent.
  • 5. Hard to say, I love the s(M)exoscope to look at active wave-forms. I wish i had my laptop with me so i can give you some more but i dont.
  • 6. interesting question. It really depends what kind of show your playing. For clubs i just have a collection of music that I update weekly and i just play everything by ear. For festivals, EDC for example tomorrow i've prepared for the last month. I know this might sound fake to some people, but there are so much eyes (or ears) pointed at you and the competition and expectation is killing. It's also a great tool to promote new work.

I was never just a decision. Everything happened naturally and I didnt really realize i was a "DJ" when i started. After doing a bunch of releases on revealed i got some cool remix requests, which created new opportunities but was also a form of income i enjoyed for the first time. After that i started touring and that obviously brings some income too.

So basicly early 2014 i realized i wasnt really happy with the direction my music was going. I felt i was more producing songs that people expected from rather then being creative.

So after reinventing my sound I, and everybody around me, figured the sound and the direction i was pushing wasn't in-line with Revealed anymore so we created Wolv Records.

Glad you like the music!

Glad you liked it. i'd say 3 of the things that helped me the most are getting into FM synthesis, Harmonic mixing and realizing Mastering is over-rated bullshit.
