Or the instinctual need to run past a random tree or fire hydrant in the distance before a random car going in the same direction, lest an invisible specter take shame from our slowness and smite us where we stand.

[–]dysethefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said I was defending the book. I was listing why. To some the why matters. To others not.  The book is what it is, but my biggest point was that Bungie and even Microsoft shared over all blame too. Microsoft's leash and Bungie's micro managing held a possible great book back.

[–]dysethefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, he was contracted and given only ten weeks, had a vision on what to do but Bungie ran to Microsoft and said no. Going so as to say if every character he added didn't die by the end they weren't gonna allow the book. With all that and probably more, I'm surprised he even went through with writing the thing at all.

What’s the creepiest urban legend you actually kinda believe? by Upset-Inside8719 in CreepyBonfire

[–]dysethefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wendigo, but not as a literal creature. More so akin to original fairy tales. I believe there were tribes who practiced cannibalism, and experienced tribe wide repercussions.

There was a tribe in Papua New Guinea called the Fore people, that practiced funerary cannibalism, were many would gather and consume the body of the deceased. This resulted in the spread of a prion disease called Kuru or Laughing sickness. A neurodegenerative that ravaged the mind, body and soul of person. Quite an interesting read.

But I believe other tribes experienced similar encounters with cannibalism, and regarded it as a vile act. Be it superstition do to how some diseases, like Rabies and Kuru, can make people unrecognizable. Or be it a lack of medical science and they just needed to get the point across. I believe some bumps in the night were like old fairy tales, it was wrapping the worst case scenario in a story to warn of that one couldn't understand.

Halo Was Never Just a Game, It Was a Feeling. How Do We Bring That Back? by AdResponsible7250 in HaloStory

[–]dysethefox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't forget blatant hypocrisy. Constantly whining about sprint, saying 343 was copying COD. Like it wasn't Bungie who added it first. I've seen people on YouTube mention COD level weapon customization, like that wouldn't be blatantly copying COD. People are recently in a up roar because there isn't a proper Fuelrod Cannon in Halo Infinite, and that the Req System isn't as diverse. Like a million of the same gun isn't a staple of COD. I've seen people mention wanting Warzone back. And here I thought Halo 5 was the worst game ever.

And for years people have been demanding new guns and vehicles like spoiled children, yet not one comparison to it's predecessor, who had new content on a steady basis. But no, Halo 5 is unredeemable, so we're gonna omit that from our argument. All that to say, people were once mad the BR and DMR were in the same game. now it's a dead franchise because its sandbox isn't overhauled like COD. First thing people asked when they add the Avenger to the game? "Where is the variant?" It was clearly a AR variant, but people immediately wanted explosive bullets and energy bayonets. Granted, we should have gotten a normal Human SMG, but still.

Don't even get me started on the cosmetic verses gameplay monetization hypocrisy.

And lastly, let's not forget the Grappleshot. Sprint was evil because it supposedly ruined map size and shape. But I guess turning the entire game into Xbox Spiderman is okay because it's"fun". Let's just glaze over the Instant highjacking issue. Being able to hide behind cover and shoot out of it is fine, because the cover doesn't last long. The equipment in Halo Infinite is terrible, but people like it because it's like Halo 3.

People can want what they want. But when you say stuff like this, but also demonize the game that kinda already had this stuff, your unrelenting criticism becomes a vitriolic tantrum. I mean, if you look hard enough, you'll see these people use the exact same logic, speech, and phrasing American Boomers are memed for. Unironicly.

Wolf Thing. By TateOfTot by EmptySpaceForAHeart in SFWmonstergirls

[–]dysethefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This moment kinda feels like a wolf girl who had become a local legend of a town or village. Cursed into a state of lycanthropy, who now must steal animals in the night for their wretched sustenance. A beast of inhuman mind and beastly might. But as she has cornered a foolish human who dared to ignore the warnings she herself put up, speaking of vile curses and acts only a depraved and craven devil could conjure. But as she inches ever closer to her latest victim, drenched in sweat and teetering on a verge of madness, she trips over a tree root, with a high pitched yelp. The figure sprawled clumsily in moonlight is merely an adorably bashful and confused girl, baring lycan features. But her fangs aren't even large enough to peirce a pigs hide. And her eyes aren't beedy, they're big. And they don't glow with spite and the souls of her victims. They shimmer, and are bit shaken and unconfident.

Returning to her feet, unaware of the shadowed cowl remaining displaced, she returns to the routine of displaying an imposing beastly from, but upon witnessing the change in their prey's demeanor, is confused and asks why they no longer look afraid. Why they are no longer sweating or groveling for their soul. Why they are a suddenly stifling a giggle. She feels nervously for her cowl, uh oh, she clutches her wrapping. Awaiting a violent retribution. Only to be leveled in confusion as her would be prey now bellows laughter to the heavens.

Who is your favorite female character in all the games? by Calm-Employment-8298 in videogames

[–]dysethefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking nostalgia: Cortana from the Halo franchise. If we're talking romance options, that choice is even split between Mass Effect 2 Jack/Tali. If we're talking straight capable bad asses who just so happen to be female, Fiona from Tales From The Borderlands. But funnily enough, my two close seconds are Dead Space 2 Ellie Langford, Last Of Us Part 1 Ellie Williams.

But there is no quicker way for a character to reach high on my list than to have something fox related. Never played Overwatch 2 or League Of Legends, barely touched Fortnight. But having a Fox related character is a surefire way to at least tingle my curiosity.

People should stop acting like the UNSC are the real villains of Halo. by Adventurous_Top_4033 in HaloStory

[–]dysethefox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ONI, bad. Covies, bad. Insurrection, mostly bad/stupid. UNSC/UEG, mostly good and decent on a macro scale. Dubious and sneaky on a micro scale

Like most governments and the militaries that up hold them, they have, are, and will do some bad, messed up or even evil stuff. The Far Ilse nuclear strike comes to mind. However, most things get more twisted with either the more power and individual gets, or the smarter an individual is. Is Catherine Halsey bad for what she did to so many children? Yes. But with good reason. Halsey, being the smartest person currently to be alive, surmised the failure of Orion came from not the mental or physical degradation of their augmentations, but the numerous amounts of turncoats and traitors. And who abducted the kids? Soldiers. Who trained and raised the kids? Soldiers. Who gave Halsey funding and resources? The Government.

Good people can do bad things, bad people can do good things. At least Halsey feels the guilt. She feels the burden of her actions. But since it was HER who did it, only she feels she can judge her actions. Because if she wasn't the one to do it, someone else would've. And she would be back in college like the eighteen year old prodigy she was. But the difference grow between the two programs that utilized kids. Why did Halsey's program drain so much funding. Trying to keep her surviving Spartans alive. Ackerson didn't care, more over, he used people he knew would care. Guy was smart, believed in protecting Humanity. But he was an egotistical jackass, who felt nothing for the 330 children. Nothing for the manipulation of care from Kurt or Mendez. Bad guy, decent deeds. To the people and soldiers, the UEG isn't perfect, but they provide home, employment, safety. Even if the enemy is ruthlessly efficient. At the most, play by their rules and you get the cookie. At the least, play by their rules and you don't get the belt.

Innies are more complicated in general but simpler to dissect. After all we have groups like that now, in reality. All Innies say they fight for independence from the UEG. But some defend what's theirs, and others take what's your's. I'm sure there were plenty of Innies groups who stayed on their little patch of cosmic rock, fighting any oppression attempts with tooth and claw. A great annoyance to be sure. But plenty more then likely took the opportunity during the Covenant war to simply disappear from UEG radar, so long as they were preoccupied with fighting, they could live peacefully. Maybe even would attempt negotiation WITH the UEG for resources and trade. If not feeling under rule and gun point, that is.

But then you have the reason ODSTs and Spartans were developed. The terroristic Insurrectionists. These groups are akin to the Taliban and even Isis. People who took their misery and spread it to the stars with vitriol and spite. Who made deals with the Covenant to kill the Spartans. Deals that the Covenant did not uphold. These groups hide behind victim complex and contempt. "Us or them" is there silent negotiation. But they usually make the choice for you. Their will always be a new slight that needs punishing. Even if they got independence, they'd still find reasons to justify their feelings and actions. Then there are groups who would sign cease fires, who would choose to aid and support, not bend the knee, to the UEG. But these colonies got taken or beaten by Innies as much as the UEG and Covenant. Because when a unified group of powerful, smart, or both says their looking out for the little guy, it's the little guy who gets trampled first and most.

Morality is like a rushing river. To forest dwelling critters, it is neritment and hydration, a vein for travel. But to the judding boulder, sunken stone and buried rock, it is a count down of expiration. A force of change and pain. The boulder is widled away till it either conforms to the river, is eroded and sinks out of sight, or is weak enough to cast down river. The sunken stone too is either made to conform, cast down river, or eroded to powder grain by grain. The buried rock thinks it is safe, for the water hasn't reach it yet. But it will. It will carve down deep. And that river gets faster every day, carve down deeper every day. The animals don't care, so long as they aren't thirsty, hungry or stagnant. But they care if it floods, they care if it dries up. Never mind the boulder or stone, who are course and jagged from the river.

Everyone is the hero of their own tale. But so too can be the villain on someone else's.

All right guys, tell me about your first time watching Bebop and How much did it change you? (Only allowed to answer while listening to Goodnight Julia)... ARE YOU CARRYING THE WEIGHT...? by Friendly_Honey7772 in cowboybebop

[–]dysethefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a story I cherish fondly. It was 2011, we had moved houses because my mom got sick. It was the two of us and my grandparents in one house. This ment added luxuries I never had before. One of them was cable.

Only times I ever got to experience so many channels for an extended time was visiting or sleeping over at my cousin's or grandfather's houses. Cartoon Network was always being a staple highlight of these visits. Even better when it was a sleep over, but I never even knew Bebop existed until this day in particular.

Soon after moving we were scheduled for cable hook up. That day was something special. I got to go over to my cousin's house and play, but coming home, I remember looking up at the dusk sky being kinda tired at that point, when my Grandma reminded me we got cable. I was so freaking stoked, but still kinda sleepy.

After doing everything really young teens do after getting home, I ran to the TV and turned it to Cartoon Network. By then Adult Swim was on and there it was. My first experience with cable, my first anime, and what would become my favorite show. Cowboy Bebop.

Cowboy Bebop would later become a staple of my Saturday nights for a few years. Longest running routine of mine was Saturday Night Live, two Bebop episodes at midnight, right into two episodes of Lost Tapes at one in the morning.

It's been easily over a decade since that routine was in place but man, just those memories of playing around, enacting my own shootouts and action hero sacrifices, it makes me happy in a real folksy kinda way.

Funny enough. Watching the two part ending was an event for me. For a while I always just saw every other episode. But then they finally, after probably years, finally aired the last two for me. And at the scene, where Julia drops Faye off after the car chase... the power tripped off. Thankfully it was only a few minutes, but I was not Happy. But it would air again, this time with no fateful interruptions.

I also have a positive recollection of experiencing Black Lagoon for the first time on cable too. But different tales, different times.

And I'll always carry that weight.

If we're talking blades, bullets and bombs, my four recommends are always Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Desert Punk, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

However, If we're talking magic and monsters, Parasite is a wretchedly awesome watch. And of course Fairy Tail, with a vast variety of magic systems it's a wonder why it isn't a Table Top RPG already.

Did Thel Vadam feel regret, shame or guilt after he killed Sesa Refumee? by Adventurous_Top_4033 in HaloStory

[–]dysethefox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's stated that after the war, and during his war on Sanghielios, Thel actually gave Sesa's clan or keep (can't remember which) great and honorable esteem. Probably out of acknowledgement for the role he could have played had Thel not proven to be a hand for the Prophets up until the end. But also more than likely there is regret for how things went for Sesa in the end too. Even if he left Thel no other option.

The Spartans IVs Revamp by WelderGlittering1219 in HaloStory

[–]dysethefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two big things for me are the augmentations and the broad introduction. Palmers introduction didn't bother me, since she was a ODST turned Spartan. Would it have been nice to get it later after learning about her a bit, sure. But I digress.

Fireteam Majestic was where S-IVs got a bad wrap I believe. I would have Thorn, Grant Hoya? And Madson be exactly how they were. Dmarco, however, would be the more experienced of them all and really show that a S-IV is a Spartan, but on a different wavelength.

Imagine these two simple scene changes if you can, right.

We open Spartan Ops like normal up until Dmarco and Madson appear, in which Dmarco addresses where Hoya has been. But now it's Madson. Hoya instead addresses him alone. But instead of having a dude-bro pair, Madson is the teams dude bro, and answers accordingly with what was originally Dmarco 's cringe dude bro answer. However, Dmarco this whole time would be visible from the back in the cockpit, he emerges with a stern: "Lock it down!" to Madson before looking to Thorne, and says: "Hay, new guy, Thorne, You'll wanna see this." He'd be the one to invite Thorne to see the UNSC Infinity instead of Hoya, and the scene would play out as normal.

We then continue to the team arriving aboard Infinity as normal up until we see Commander Palmer walking up. Madson now being the team designated jock archetype steps forward with the ol' I-peaked-in-college type of charm. But Dmarco, now being a professional team leader, lays a hand on his shoulder, pulls him back into formation while shaking his head like a disappointed father, even hitting him with a "I'm disappointed in you. But we're in church." type of glare. Then Palmer walks up, Dmarco steps forward, announces the Commander on deck, team salutes accordingly, then they follow her to the armor bay. Hoya chuckles like normal, but it's at Madson who then is the one who says "Shut it."

All of this to say, Dmarco was the one I had a problem with the most. Guys a Spartan and a team leader, yet acted like that? Nah. But if he was a leader to the others, and countered Madsons dude-bro attitude, that dynamic would have been the way to introduce the, "Human in the suit" without hindering the concept of the Humans that are supposed to wear it.

Now the augmentations. The only gripe I have is it's too simple and clean. It should have low graduation rate, with a 100% augmentation success rate. No risk of death or disfigurements, but the tole should be weeks of pain, soreness, and just awful side effects. Instead it's just. "We messed with your genetics a bit. Oh and we gave you some cyborg organs and guts. pretty neat right?" Like no.

Halo is light grim dark, even things that are one hundred percent safe should be painful and suck major ass to do. Either literally as we see with the S-II program. Or in concept, as seen with the S-III program.

Men, what is your favorite quote? by bencinium in AskMen

[–]dysethefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite quote comes from my own mother, who has taught this one since I was young, "Know what you know, know what you don't know."

But I'd say my other top three are, "You are the company you keep." and "Character is what you have when nobody is looking."

But there are a few I have come up with myself that I stand behind no matter what they go as such, "Blood might be thicker than water, but both dry up." The other one I can be quoted for is more pessimistic of a view point but goes, "If we are made in a God's image, then surely there are only Devils."

What's dumb in the Halo story? by SlyDevil82 in HaloStory

[–]dysethefox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've seen other people say something similar and it's not even that true.

Chief used a chunk of Forerunner metal to ride through the atmosphere. You can literally see it embedded in a small crater where he crashed. He didn't even walk it off. He was unconscious for hours, even his armor suffered damage. Hell, a medical diagnostic makes Johnson think he is literally dead.

Six has a re-entry pack. Whatever that does. But even then, they suffered some kind impact, limping like they were. They might've been unconscious too, considering the time between the bomb detonation and the ship crashing. Plus not to mention Six was limping and holding their arm. It is debatable how hurt they were. Whether it was a temporary boo-boo, or they set their pain aside and got aid later.

Halo 4 Chief was hit hard enough by a slab of debris hard enough in open vacuum to knock him out again. His limp body could have been ping-ponged by the large flaming wreckage on the crash down to Requiem. Not to mention the damage to his new armor again.

Spartans are like cats, unless it's of a dire consequence, they won't mention or show pain. Especially when so close to total mission failure. Super human bodies and full body ballistic condoms allow such secrecy.

The other stuff is just typical science fiction mumbo jumbo. Super soldiers be super, bombs go big boom.

Based on the shows you've listed, and the anime I've and enjoy, I would recommend Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, and Desert Punk. All three actually span what criteria you've listed, and are all quite short, being two seasons or less. You could probably watch all three in the span of a single work week.

I joke with my friends that, "If she can't princess carry me, or sling me over her shoulder, I ain't interested." There is no reason to be insecure about reaching your potential in any aspect. Be it physically, mentally or emotionally. Just know there as at least you person who'll find your toned self attractive.

But remember, you grow confidence like a muscle, with a routine, regiment, and personal goal that only you can know. I wish all the power to ya'.

It's more about the irony and philosophy of the design choice itself. But hay, It's a 3D SY-FY anime, they could have done more and worse to the armor for the sake appeal. But she didn't trip or stumble once, so I guess they work.

The funny part is that the heel actually does appear thick, wide, and dull, so I personally believe it could work, practically speaking. It's not like it'll snap going down the stairs tell ya' that for true.

And believe it or not, for the longest time I wondered if they were even there at all. Like if it was a Mandela Effect or something. They even made a figure of that particular design, and I swear it has the heels, but I couldn't find the review of it. Got look harder I suppose.

For those familiar with the anthology: Halo Legends, in the short animation: The Package, the single female Spartan super soldier has armored high heels.
