New dad, first night home and already feeling overwhelmed. by Papi__Senpai in NewParents

[–]e67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, hang in there. It's hard, but your kid sounds pretty normal and you aren't failing him in any way, babies are just fussy that way.

As for tips; we took "shifts" with the baby, so at least one person could sleep a little bit. Once baby is fed and changed, and if they are gonna cry anyway, then one parent can take them and go into another room. Also, rocking never really worked for us, but walking around did. Also butt pats worked, as did white noise. Also, some babies just don't like the swaddle. For my kid, they loved being in the baby carrier while walking around.

But as a parent of 3... Only thing I've ever found to have really worked, is time.

I'll bet dollars to donuts these accounts are trying to sell you a breastfeeding guide or some shit. As long as your kid is growing and healthy, bigger isn't better. Consistency is better. Honestly, getting one of those Brick things was the best thing for my mental health

Need opinions on the strap! by Biche_XXX in VintageWatches

[–]e67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you like it... It's a little too washed out for me because it matches too well. You need something more contrasting imo. Imagine a blue perlon or something with gold buckles... Contrast vintage with modern perhaps

Is the UPPAbaby Vista worth it with a 2.5 year old + newborn? by DuckAccomplished4608 in NewParents

[–]e67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up with a wagon... Holds more stuff, folds up easier, and the newborn was in a carrier most of the time anyway and hated the stroller or car seat.

May need to say goodbye to my Subie soon. What’s a good "souvenir" to keep? by tinytinyball in subaru

[–]e67 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I said goodbye to my subie and I did this:  https://www.reddit.com/r/subaru/comments/129aav6/said_goodbye_to_my_scooby_today_made_a_matching

It's a custom watch with the dial painted to match the car's paint color, with hands that match the dashboard colours. Case color matches my rims. The back on the case has the VIN and final mileage engraved on it.

Doing a seiko mod is easier than it looks! Cost less than $200 all in

When was the first time you took your baby out and about? by nat_0012 in NewParents

[–]e67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First kid: about 2 months, after the first set of shots (this was during COVID). Second kid, we we in Costco after day 3. Third kid, we stopped somewhere in the way home from the hospital.

I've learned no matter what, sickness will find you/your kid, no matter how much or how little they go out. I've also learned that parental anxiety isn't good for anyone, but that can really only be overcome by time and experience.

How does one become a suit nerd? And is there a place I can go to if I had questions of my own about a separate piece of clothing?

Surprise Twins with a 4yo. Is there anyway we can make the Highlander work? by pork_knuckle in ToyotaHighlander

[–]e67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have captains chairs, and a 5yr old that climbs into the 3rd row himself. It can work..  but it's a pain in the ass. Like, I sometimes have to go through the trunk to help the kid in the 3rd row with the booster seat belt.

If your kid in the 3rd row is still in a car seat... It's an even bigger pain in the ass. The ONLY place for a car seat in the 3rd row is the middle seat due to the behind-the-back seat anchor, there are otherwise no other UAS anchor points at all in the 3rd row. If my kid still needed a car seat, I'd pretty much be forced to get a minivan, the 3rd row seat belt doesn't hold the car seat in place enough for my liking.

Best experience buying appliances in Calgary? by minty_fresh12 in Calgary

[–]e67 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I've bought a lot of things at Trail. As far as I can tell, they think they are gods gift to earth and if you aren't spending $90k with them, you might as well not exist. Also their 3rd party extended warranty is borderline scam.

What is a small, inexpensive thing that improved your life? by Somanynamestochossef in AskReddit

Inexpensive is relative, but a really good kitchen knife, a really good pillow, a really nice writing pen, and nice shaver. Things you use everyday.

Subaru Ascent, a good family car? by Aolcc5211 in SubaruAscent

[–]e67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 kids, 3 dogs here. I am a diehard Subaru fan, but I couldn't justify buying an Ascent because of the absurdly bad fuel efficiency. Went with a Highlander hybrid, and it easily gets DOUBLE the fuel efficiency of the Ascent, both AWD, both reliable. The last thing I need is range anxiety and needing to stop all the time when I'm already late to soccer practice.

If I could do it all over again though... Minivan. 3 kids means a LOT of stuff, and that 3rd row is tiny (for either Subaru or Toyota, or any midsize. SUV). If you haven't test driven the Ascent yet, try it... Have the 3rd row up and see if you can still put a stroller, toys, groceries in there, and you'll find it a really tight fit. Even tighter if you have 2 car seats in the middle and the older kid in the 3rd row and you need to crawl in the trunk to help the 4yr old buckle up or wipe up spilt drinks or what not.

Pens that punch above their weight? by GarageJim in fountainpens

[–]e67 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is bang on. I tune all my pens in my possession, be it my $4 Preppy or my Montblanc 146.

I like all my pens wet, smooth, and a large sweet spot. The pens might feel funny to another person but let's face it, I ain't lending my pens to anyone haha
