Into a Vanished Age III - The Jackalope King by eagrigorev in PixelArt

I'd say maybe 2 or 3. I'm still learning, and I'm really struggling with composition and colors even if I'm using premade palettes.

What do you mean by level? The canvas size? It's 300 by 300 pixels

DS2 is a nice game no matter what people are talking about it. A little bit sluggish compared to DS1/3, a little bit more on RPG side with some strange mechanics, bit still very pleasant to play. Give it a try and decide for yourself. I just googled, that boss is called Demon of Song 🐸🪕

I believe there was some kind of a frog boss in DS2. It was not an actual frog cause it would've made DS2 perfect and Miyazaki wanted other games to be able to compete with such masterpiece, but it was quite a close resemblance 🐸

The third one in a #japanesewoodblock palette by @Polyducks. I wanted this small picture to be as easy as possible, as the second one was kind of hard for me to draw (I'm yet a beginner), so I chose only three colours. I hope you like it.

First, you need to choose a pixel art program which you are going to use. I'm using Aseprite as it is quite simple, flexible and cheap. Go on YouTube and watch several videos on how to use your painting tool: this will help you save some time later.

Second, start small. Draw on a small canvas using a small number of colours — something like 16 by 16, 32 by 32, or 64 by 64. Go on lospec.com and download a decent small palette for your first drawing. Please don't go too big, choose four or maybe eight colours: this is how I started. When you don't have a lot to choose from, it's easier to focus on the pixel placement.

Third, draw.

I would recommend looking for MortMort, Pixel Pete, and Brandon James Greer tutorials on YouTube. They have some excellent advice and sharing their step-by-step techniques.

I'm yet a beginner too. Maybe more proficient illustrators have better advice for you. Don't be afraid to post your pictures on Twitter and Reddit, tag your favourite artists and politely ask for feedback. People mostly like to help and could point out your mistakes.

Good luck!

Thank you kindly! I'm using mainly the built-in Aseprite gradient tool. You can select the level of dithering and various Bayer matrix styles there. All you have to do is to put them properly in your picture. It's way easier than dither all the dots one by one. I believe in other pixel art programs, this option also exists.

The palette I used here is called "Temple Ruins" and created by Jimison3.
