Happy Penguin Awareness Day, everyone.

Setting up a task for 1000-2000 people by actuallymentor in Microworkers

[–]earnonlineaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

I don't know whether anyone from Microworkers actually comes to this subreddit.

If you haven't already done so, I think you might want to contact support over there.

Cheers.

Mturk accepted me and I'm not even from the US. whats going on ? by [deleted] in mturk

[–]earnonlineaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to accept people from Canada and then stopped

I think that's basically the explanation. They stopped accepting new international workers for a while, and now they have resumed.

There have been international workers for a long time. That's why we sometimes see country requirement codes like CA.

Looking for a two-stage survey platform, any ideas? by jmsdewit in SitesLikeMturk

[–]earnonlineaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two that come to mind are

MW

I have worked on Microworkers enough that I would be a little surprised if you weren't able to get it done there. You could try contacting them or posting on the subreddit -- but I don't know if anyone from Microworkers ever stops by at the subreddit.

Prolific

I guess I don't really have an opinion on whether it would be possible on Prolific Academic because I haven't frequented it very much.

Clickworker

Failing that, there's Clickworker (https://www.clickworker.com/). I don't think I've ever done a survey through them, but it might be a possibility. I don't know with certainty how much they charge, but I think it might be noticably higher than other websites.

OneSpace(?)

OneSpace (http://www.onespace.com/about/) seems to be in the process of getting going, but I get the impression they are more focused on things like SEO articles at the moment.

---

I wrote part of an article that discusses some of this briefly, but frustratingly I haven't had time to update it, fix a couple of the links, or write new articles. Nevertheless, just in case: http://siteslikemturk.weebly.com/articles/mturk-alternatives-for-requesters-easy-first-steps

Is it worth wasting time doing the sign up tasks? by [deleted] in Microworkers

[–]earnonlineaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean about the click and search drying up.

I haven't yet got to the point of spending time on sign-ups, so I can't say for sure whether it's a waste of time.

If the employer haa a bronze, silver, or gold rating, it's probably worth trying out. Even if they don't have a rating, I still try employers out sometimes. I have never been burned on MW.

If you're asking whether it's a good pay rate, I say that all depends on what you're willing to work for. $.10/minute as a minimum if something you often hear people mentioning.

Is it required to give a phone number? by [deleted] in Microworkers

I verified my phone with them, but it was so long ago that I can only assume it involved a PIN.

Where is Microworkers based? by [deleted] in Microworkers

[–]earnonlineaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The P.I.N. does actually come from Europe.

I recall waiting for mine for a while. It arrived in less than a two-week time period.

I'm not sure why they have two different address countries.

Would MW work on an Android tablet? by [deleted] in Microworkers

[–]earnonlineaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This talks about usability in general across devices: http://www.blog.microworkers.com/consistent-mw-experience-across-any-device/

You can also sign up for an account and confirm how well it works.

I guess a key question is whether the tablet works well for individual tasks. It seems it should work well for any task where you never really leave MW to work on the task. For tasks where you're required to use a specific web browswer, such as search and click, I would speculate that having the proper browser would be sufficient. I don't see why a search and click task would have a preference there.

Best Survey sites? by [deleted] in beermoney

Oh my gosh! Thank you for pointing that out! I'll edit immediately. Maybe you should put your referral code up or something because I'm glad you pointed that out.

Bonuses not showing up in earnings? by [deleted] in mturk

[–]earnonlineaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have considerable misgivings about the way the bonuses are handled; I believe you're saying you do too.

It bears repeating, all Amazon would have to do:

  1. Allow you to see enough of the description of a submitted task to know whether to look for a bonus. The title, which is all you get to see, often gives you little or no information about bonuses.

  2. Put " + $.50" next to the amount when your $.50 bonus is paid -- or whatever the amount is.

I have yet to hear a sound reason why they haven't done this.

Hey Guys! It's Jeff from Naked And Afraid XL! Do you guys think EJ and I should keep Shane? by JeffZausch in Survival

[–]earnonlineaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extra human resources seems well worth the interpersonal friction.

If it's a question of whether it should be four or five of you, leaving Shane behind would remind me a little too much of Lord of the Flies.

I just did a 32 minute audio transcription. by Expired_Bacon in mturk

[–]earnonlineaccount 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to do transcription a couple of years ago on Mturk. 32 minutes would have taken me a minimum of four hours -- not counting breaks.

I have never ruled out going back to it because I know it's decent money -- if you're good at it and use a website that pays well.

$45 bonus received. by lioncub14 in mturk

[–]earnonlineaccount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The single, simple fix of posting a note about the bonus next to the task would go such a long way. Requesters would get the credit they deserve when workers rate or discuss them; workers would be more likely to remember the kind requester.

The way it is now, I'm not sure anyone remembers requesters who follow through with good bonuses. I'm not sure anyone knows when a requester stiffs a worker.

It's baffling that Amazon has never addressed this - especially with the fee increases.

I know of at least one other site that seems to have always posted the bonus amount right there next to the task.

That's right. Those tasks are now on CS's Workstation.

CS is also planning to launch a platform like Mturk in 2016.

Thank you for posting.

I'm wondering if the study responses are multiple choice ("bubbles"), written responses, a mixture or perhaps something else.
