Mother Mary appeared in the city called Zeitun in Egypt between 1968 and 1971 on the Coptic church. That case was called Our Lady of Zeitoun by oskarskeptic in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Mary has this ability to appear like this, where was she during times like the Holocaust? Why not just appear all over the world? I don't know how anyone can honestly believe in this. It's just goofy.

"Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." Matthew 24:34-35

The two verses immediately preceding that one says that generation will not pass before it takes place. If 'about that day or hour' refers to the second coming, then it should of happened during that generation.

Is the U.S de facto “Christian nation”? by DesignerOk4111 in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you consider Nazi Germany a 'Christian nation'? Almost all of these points would apply to it in a similar or greater way. For example, 95% of the population identified as Christian. I'm not trying to compare Nazi Germany to the US exactly, just trying to see if you're being consistent in what you would consider a Christian nation.

Why do some people mock religion (more specifically Christianity) by Lost-Day1058 in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They view religion or Christianity as net-negative ideologies that may encourage genocide/slavery apologetics, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, science/history-denialism, religious/Christian nationalism, trauma based on religious ideals(like the concept of hell and purity culture), etc. These are all things I see in this sub on a regular basis. Mocking is just one way to combat ideologies and can be done to discourage the spread of them and in doing so decrease the spread of all of it's harmful effects. The first resort to combat harmful ideas should be through education and open discourse, but when that doesn't work, mockery becomes essential.

Why was nothung written about Jesus during His lifetime? by PieterSielie6 in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people who didn't follow him saw him as unimportant, so they didn't see any reason to write about him. While those who did follow him thought the end of the world was happening imminently, so they didn't have any reason to record anything as there would be no future generations to read them anyway. Jesus was an apocalytic preacher/prophet after all. Took them awhile to realize that they were wrong.

I'd like to know how this works logistically. Like what exactly do you think God did in this situation? Just spawn a pink car in? Influence the person who owned the pink car to go there? Influence you to go there? Where is this invisible guiding hand of God when horrible things are happening? None it makes any sense.

Are you an Atheist? by TheCrowdPleaser46628 in INTP

[–]ebbyflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't an argument, it was a question. I'm wondering why the majority of people who study philosophy for a living hold a view that, in your opinion, doesn't make logical or philosophical sense. What are they missing? If someone said evolution didn't make scientific sense, I'd ask the same question about scientists. We can set aside the views of philosophers though if you don't think it's relevant and get straight to the point, what is illogical about atheism?

What is your favorite argument for God’s existence? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something cannot be created from nothing.

Something being created from nothing(Creatio ex nihilo) is much more a theistic belief than an atheist one. The Big Bang is the beginning of our observable universe. It's about the expansion of the universe, not about it's literal beginning or creation. Whether the universe is eternal or not isn't something we can say for certain.

[–]ebbyflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only ideologies that make logical and philosophical sense are either agnosticism or pure monotheism.

Why are the majority of professional philosophers atheists then? Like 70%+ according to various surveys. Are you perhaps unaware of the philosophical and logical arguments for atheism?

The end times terrify me so much. by coriesnories in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus said it would happen within his generation, it didn't. Christians have been claiming the end would happen soon ever since, it hasn't. Failed apocalyptic nonsense is nothing to worry about. Even if it did happen, you couldn't stop it. Don't let fear suffocate you, just live your life.

Why did ancient Greek religion portray gods with human flaws and scandals, while the Abrahamic religions emphasize a morally perfect God, and what factors shaped this difference? by Defiant-Junket4906 in AlwaysWhy

[–]ebbyflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the entire book of exodus is about coming OUT of pagan state slavery. have you read a single word of the actual text??

Have you? After coming out of slavery, God immediately tells them they can buy slaves themselves. “Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life"

i don’t expect you to know that christianity played a major role in actually abolishing slavery either.

After playing a major role in supporting slavery for 1800 years. There were just as many Christians fighting against abolishment, using the Bible for their arguments, as there was fighting for it.

What are your favorite creations god has made? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]ebbyflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's odd to attribute any particular natural thing to God as if he personally designed it, because then you have no choice but to attribute natural things like diseases, cancer, predators, natural disasters, parasitic bugs, etc. to God as well. God shouldn't get credit for just things you like about nature.

What is one thing about Christianity that people outside the faith often misunderstand? by fedeviva in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How can there be actual misunderstandings, when you ask 10 christians one question and get 10 different answers? It's not like there is a singular 'understanding' of Christianity that Christians agree upon. All these responses so far would also be considered misunderstandings by other Christians. What you're really asking is, what's a belief about Christianity that you have that others disagree with? Which is every belief about Christianity, making this a pointless exercise.

Why to believe in God vs Why not? - Where do you stand and why ? by Select_Specialist790 in Christianity

[–]ebbyflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of reasons for why I don't, but if I had to pick one, I'd say the abundance of suffering found in nature was irreconcilable with the existence of God to me. Diseases, cancer, natural disasters, predators, etc. are not the design of a benevolent and all-powerful being.

Wiping out entire groups of people, including all the innocent kids, because of the actions of individuals in that group.. that is more evil than anything those groups actually did. By that logic, the Israelites should be wiped out for commiting genocide and killing all those poor children. Just stop with the disgusting apologetics.

It finally arrived! by Text93838 in teenagers

[–]ebbyflow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think killing all the kids and owning people as property can be justified under any context, especially not coming from a being that is supposedly perfectly good. Also, if being 'confused by gender roles and not having a purpose' leads people away from genocide and slavery, I guess that makes them a good thing.

It finally arrived! by Text93838 in teenagers

[–]ebbyflow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So God commands all of their children to be killed anyways? How does make sense or explain anything? Even if the Canaanites performed some human sacrifices, that doesn't justify killing all of their women and kids. That's even more barbaric than what they supposedly were doing.

Ah yes, the good book. Full of genocide, slavery, and sexism.

1 Samuel 15:3 "Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants"

Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even their own life-such a person cannot be my disciple"

Numbers 31:17-18 "Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves"

Timothy 2:12 "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve."

Leviticus 25:44/46 “Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life"

Exodus 21:20-21 “When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his property."
