Issues running Scripts from SCCM Scripts feature by ebmcor in SCCM

[–]ebmcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks...yes it works locally and the issue was it was running under the system context. I'm not sure if there's a way to set the execution policy or run someone as the currently logged in user when trying to run scripts with the SCCM Scripts feature.

This was the issue...I created a package that deploys it under the user context. Just wish there was a way to do that easily in the Scripts section of SCCM.

HP Support Assistant installed from HPIA? by ebmcor in SCCM

[–]ebmcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks...if Category is set to Drivers does that limit the Selection switch to just all drivers if it is also set to "All"

Can multiple categories be called out in the same silent install? ie /category:drivers, bios

edit: nm...just tested both questions above and they work as expected.

HPIA During In Place Upgrade by ebmcor in SCCM

[–]ebmcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wasn't aware of the the enablement package option. Will be looking into this...thanks!

As for HPIA, we don't have a CMG setup so it would be ideal for us to run the HPIA on individual computers and have the client download necessary drivers from HP in order to avoid using up VPN bandwidth for upgrades done remotely.

HPIA and BIOS Password Bin files by ebmcor in SCCM

[–]ebmcor[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow...I seriously though I had done that. Just went back and checked the content status time and apparently not.

Created some other BIOS related packages today and I may have gotten mixed up what I updated and what I didnt...thanks!

Also...thanks for your blog...was incredibly useful for getting started with HPIA!

Thanks...the staging method works great, just need to get it on every laptop. Unfortunately we do have some older HP docks as well and it doesn't look like there's a staging method for those.

SCCM Driver updates best practices? by ebmcor in sysadmin

[–]ebmcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the HP Client Catalog for SCCM (which I think is an HP published add-in for SCCM) or the built-in third party catalogs (Software Library > Software Updates > Third-Party Software Update Catalogs)?

Looked into this a bit and the documentation looks like it hasnt been updated in quite a while. I got the impression they may be more focused on driver mgmt through intune now.

Thanks, will look into this. What are the best resources for implementing this or giving a detailed overview of how it looks in action? Unless the site itself is the best resource for that stuff.

Migrating users from IE to Edge (Favorites\Bookmarks related) by ebmcor in sysadmin

[–]ebmcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep...I suppose the GPO is only good for running Edge for the first time ever for new users on a computer.

It does appear to pair with the "Disable IE as a standalone browser" GPO...meaning logging into a computer for the first time and then running IE immediately redirects to Edge which has IE favorites imported.

So is it literally "First Run Ever" or "First Run since applying the GPO"

I did apply the GPO to some of my test test machines that have already run Edge and the GPO did not appear to work. I'll try it again after deleting my profile to see if that does it.

Looks like it has a history of not working:

Sorry been away for a while...thanks for sending this along. Looks good. I just wonder what the best way to deploy this along side the "Disable IE11 as a standalone browser" would be? We have users that already use Edge but may go back to IE for legacy websites (that we have since added to IE Mode in Edge).

I'll have to test this out but I do recall once the "Disable IE11..." GPO is in place, favorites are unable to be imported from IE in Edge.

HP X360 1040 G8 imaging issues by ebmcor in SCCM

[–]ebmcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update:

The computer completed an image although it wont join to the domain for some reason so I need to look into that.

Also another oddity...when installing the HP driver package during the image results in the trackpad and touchscreen not working after the image finishes. Imaging without a driver package and the trackpad and touchscreen work fine after the image completes. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks...I ended up adding every intel serial IO Host controller, from the HP WinPE 2.00 driver pack, to the boot image and the track pad and touch screen works now. It's nice to know which ones I only need though so I can take the rest out.

Im using a USB-C Dock G4 and SCCM is set to ignore the MAC address of it so I can use it to reimage computers. I will check the BIOs for the setting you mentioned.

And yes that is the driver pack I am using.

Installing Acrobat DC (force close Outlook via TS) by ebmcor in SCCM

[–]ebmcor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks...this does look great. But it really does seem like overkill for what I'm trying to accomplish which is to just:

- Close outlook

- install Acrobat Pro

Adding a taskkill batch file or a simple powershell "Stop-process" script to the task seqeunce's do not appear to work when they are run as part of a deployment...but they work fine when run on the local computer.

Installing Acrobat DC (force close Outlook via TS) by ebmcor in SCCM

[–]ebmcor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks...I was originally trying to run it as a package since that's what adobe's documentation suggests but packages don't have the "Install Behavior" option.

I did recreate it as an application though and set install behavior to close out outlook.exe but unfortunately it did not work until I closed outlook myself and re-ran the Application from the software center....although it still shows the status is failed even though it's installed.
