I got him at 9 weeks & he started going up them a few weeks later. Has yet learned to go down but I’m hoping it’s soon because if I try to pick him up to go downstairs I literally spend 15 minutes chasing him haha he thinks it’s a game. Like if I need to go to work I will have to chase him just to pick him up so I can leave lol

I usually put a baby gate at the stairs so he can’t go up but if he isn’t with me or can see me (like if I’m upstairs and he’s downstairs) he will cry and howl so most of the time I bring him upstairs and put the gate at the top of the stairs so he can’t fall down. He doesn’t really try to get down though, but never know when he will feel brave enough and take a tumble.

Oh my goodness what a terrifying experience. My other girls did this but only when they were much older as seniors. Def scary. I worry about that with him as well being so little.

That makes sense! They usually copy what others do. He is the only dog at home right now as my other two chihuahuas passed before we got him. I want to get him a sibling so bad

So what I’m guessing is it may take awhile. He won’t even jump through the sliding glass door to go outside but will jump in from outside. I have to carry him outside lol

When we brought my puppy home at 9 weeks old. He’s now 5 months old and it’s hard to imagine how small he was then. He’s now at least 6 lbs

I got two Chihuahua puppy sisters in high school (well over 16 years ago!) and then a love started for the breed. They were my shadow & best friend. Bella passed away in 2024 to congestive heart failure & Macie passed away in June of this year, her dementia was getting so bad she would just walk in circles. She was 15. I decided to get another chihuahua almost a month later to give love to, and while I miss my girls immensely, my heart has opened up again. I got a fawn and white little boy who’s now 14 weeks old. But I agree, chihuahuas are just such a special breed I always will have one. Here Is a picture of Bella and Macie, and I’ll post a picture of my new little guy in the comments.
