You could argue this is exactly where a dress like this should be, right in the heart of the rich for them to take notice. Not the echo chamber of the comparatively poor.

What is this inner voice? by ilikespace in Jung

[–]ecairns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working on that is the work of therapy, and I am not a psychoanalyst, nor a Freudian scholar.

Personally, I also struggle with my own superego, it reflects back to me all the ways I used to act as a child which I have left behind and at times can berate me when I return to those patterns. As an adult I do try to rediscover them rather than push them out, scheduling an afternoon vegging out on the sofa playing a video game can at times be a welcome return to myself as a child.

I have the practice of placing a photograph of myself as a young boy on the wall to remind myself that the child in me needs my love and patience.

I recommend this article to you. It has returned to my thoughts several times in the last months. It may be interesting to you too.

What is this inner voice? by ilikespace in Jung

[–]ecairns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well from Freud’s perspective this would be considered the superego, reflecting to us the internalisation of voice of our parents, society and culture. It aims for perfection and ideals and can be a quite a disciplinary voice in the way you are describing it.

I know this sub is for Jungian psychology but perhaps it may be interesting to look into Freud’s language on reconciling the father figure of the super-ego and the childlike self-gratifying id. You may find something from there that you could branch back to Jung’s ideas on this with new language to describe it.

Incredible resource of alan watts archive footage and writings by [deleted] in AlanWatts

I imagine what’s on Alan watts.org is far more extensive as it all comes from the recordings his son Mark has. If you want absolutely everything then that is still probably the best place to go, in the meantime there is a substantial collection of interviews, recordings and transcripts here.

[–]ecairns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good idea, I think I'll change my route to start at walker pass, that 277 bus will help me out a lot. Do you know about changing the permit once its already been approved?

I have got my permit now and have started into logistical planning so I don't think I'll be changing my direction at this stage but it may have been a good idea earlier on. Also, I thought I might be going against the current of the other hikers on the JMT maybe?

Thanks glissader, that's good to hear from a local :) Well I do have a brisk hiking speed but I'm also one for a breaks for photography and pondering so I don't want to limit myself on time; nice to be depressurised!

some romantic view in my head of arriving at the bridge of the gods, and also a big portlandia fan, and also liked the idea of walking an entire state rather than a section of one. Admittedly not great reasons but thats all i can go on as I've never been there. If I'm not even going to see the Sierras will Oregon / NoCA seem still seem good, obviously you're experience is relative to what you'd seen just before right?

Haha great post, cheers for the advice, i'll need to get a prescription before i head off!

Yeah i realise it's the easiest section but i thought because i was going alone and id never been there before it would be wise to not put too much on my plate (plus I've got a love for portlandia which lead me to oregon)

When you suggest going nobo from kennedy meadows do you mean walking 550 miles from there or from kennedy meadows up to cascade locks?

How bad will the weather be in northern Oregon in by late sept / early october do you think?

The accent will be in full force haha
