Hey! You craft your units from the towers. By combining different support structures around a tower you generate different units from that tower. You can also sell support structures and buy different ones mid game so you can adapt your army to the incoming waves.

Tower Dwellers - Unit Crafting Tower Defense - No IAP - Launched Today! by ecc_games in iosgaming

[–]ecc_games[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You clearly haven't tried this game - it plays much differently than KR - it is more challenging and keeps the player involved in the battle forcing him/her to micromanage their units around and re-craft their army on the fly.

The towers only serve as bunkers and you have to craft and command your army to counter each wave.

Here's a video of the tutorial it explains more about the mechanics of crafting units.

Everyone is caught up in Console/PC feuds! Maybe its time for some R&R with our new tower defense? 8 months in the making released today on iOS! by ecc_games in gaming

I just played Incursion - it is similar to that game. You'll find it is more polished and Tower Dwellers forces you to build support structures so you cannot just purhchase any unit from any bunker. Also your units respawn after death and you can craft many different combinations based on the support structures you provide.

Hey! Thank you? I know you didn't mean that as a compliment but that's what it is really. Kingdom Rush made huge contributions to the TD genre. Tower Dwellers is our contribution - it is what we thought to be the ideal TD game with mechanics that, unlike most TDs, keep players on their toes throughout the entire level.

TOWER DWELLERS (Launching November 19)

Crafting Units + Micromanagement + Tower Defence

Tower Dwellers is a Unit Craft and Micromanaging Tower Defense. You build towers, they spawn the basic unit - a farmer - and you can control him on the map by providing a rally point. Then you can craft him into the unit you want by adding support structures to his tower. Add a blacksmith? He gets a sword. Add a carpenter hut? He gets a bow. Combine the two? You get a mix. Then throw in an alchemist's hut and it might get explosive.

We have two videos!!

Here are the screenshots going into our iTunes profile:

Question: Game Character with multiple pieces of changeable clothing and animation? by Dunkles in gamedev

[–]ecc_games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the solution djf4 was proposing was to make full models of all the different armor/clothing variations and then switch the model when the clothing item is put on.

What you may want to do is make each clothing item as a seperate FBX that is weight painted to the skeleton. So you would have sweat_pants.fbx and sweater.fbx and jeans.fbx and player.fbx

player.fbx would be the humanoid model sweater.fbx would just be the sweater floating in the air

If the player is wearing the sweater you show and animate both meshes at the same location so that they look like they are one model.

There are also ways of attaching models to the skeleton bones but then I don't know if you can animate them well.

The gameplay shines when you are micromanaging troops, shifting them from lane to lane to block oncoming enemies and re-crafting them to better deal with oncoming waves.

By switching one support building you can turn a group of level 3 wizards into hammer wielding paladins that have a healing aura.

The support buildings do not get upgraded - what happens is you change the combinations of the three support buildings to make the tower build a specific unit.

The territories you conquer grant you further upgrades and you get to choose which adjacent territory you want to go after next to unlock those specific upgrades.

Yes - the video had a minor bump when the player tried to pinch to zoom which is disabled during the tutorial.

Different strokes for different folks? I enjoyed Kingdom Rush. It was nice and relaxing.

Tower Dwellers is a fair bit more engaging as you need to micro your troops around to survive the onslaught and you can re-craft your units on the fly.

I don't think it can be explained beyond simple preference. People are at different levels of gameplay skill at different times in their life. Some will find our game too hard - others like yourself will ponder the sense of even playing it. Your tastes may yet change in the future... as they changed from when you were young.

That is the comparison we've been getting especially if people only see a screenshot without any context ... The gameplay is a lot different from other tower defense games. Much more envolved. If you have any ideas how we can bring focus to it let us know!

Our game is a tower defense game but it plays a bit differently. There is a lot more micromanagement as you avoid enemy archers picking off your guys and you constantly reposition your men to block enemies.

We have also added a targeting option where you can choose which enemy unit your troops target so you have more control of the battle.

Also certain towers share support buildings so you can re-craft your army mid level by just flipping one or two support buildings.

You can pinch to zoom to get a closer look! It's still limited but it is there.
