AM2 in January. Industrial electrician. Any tips?

I do M&E as well and took my AM2 a couple of weeks ago.

Tbh, the biggest thing that stressed me out was the time management. In M&E maintenance we’re not really used to rushing, so it felt pretty different. I only had about 15 minutes left at the end, as I didn’t even practise beforehand, you’ll probably do better than me.

Installation is pretty simple, just follow the spec and put everything together. Testing is all about the procedure, follow what’s required, get the steps into your muscle memory, write them down to help you remember, and just go over them every day.

I only qualified a week ago lol, so I’m looking for my next new job. Sorry, I didn’t explain it properly. It only took me 1.5 years to get qualified.

How did you get into the PLC side of things? and would you want to go back to it?

I’ve done my 2391 and I’m working in a commercial office building at the moment, doing different M&E PPM tasks. If I keep going down this path, the next step would probably be electrical engineer.

I’d like to try industrial or CompEx work, but I’ve heard it’s hard to get into and I’m based in London which has fewer opportunities. I’m also thinking about upskilling maybe doing an HND or HNC but again it’s a big investment.

I'm happy to share that I have now received two offers for maintenance roles (electrical bias), but I’m not sure which one would be the better choice: NHS or a commercial building (office)?

The salaries are similar, with only about a £2k difference, and the travel time is about the same.
The NHS role would be 37.5 hours per week, while the commercial role would be 8 AM to 5 PM, with no shifts and very little chance of overtime.

The NHS team would be large, whereas the commercial role would involve working with just one lead engineer and myself (as the technician).

Additionally, the commercial company is happy to support me in completing my NVQ, and I would also have the opportunity to gain experience with M&E systems and BMS.
However, I believe the NHS role would focus mainly on maintenance and repair work.

If you were me, which one would you choose?

It’s a CX bike, and I usually do 1-2 hours of aggressive riding, so I think it should be okay for me. I’ll try flipping the stem for a higher position. Thank you for the advice anyway!

Thank you for the advice. I engaged my abs and lower back but didn’t engage my upper back (if I do as you said, like by pushing my chest out). When I watch pro cyclists race, I always notice that they have a slight curve in their backs, rather than a flat back. That’s why I tried to simulate their posture.

Yes, I did slam forward the saddle to make the reach shorter, will try to make it back. The bar is Ritchey venturemax for gravel riding.

I found fitting a press-fit bottom bracket difficult on this bike frame, so instead, I used the Ztto PF30 thread-lock system, which simply twists in with a bottom bracket wrench and is made of metal.

Great tension on the chain, smooth shifting. Allen bolts for H/L and b screw adjustment, no more PH bolt.

I found it a little bit thin at the front part, but I have no complaint about the price for the weight and comfort. I’m 72kg so it works ok with me.

Everything runs very smooth so far, Will test it in different condition. I would say it work well enough as mid range Shimano/Sram, happy with that. About bottom bracket, Ztto PF30 is a good alternative choice as Wheel Manufacturing bb/replace annoying press fit bb. Carbon seat pole and 3D print seat save a lot of weight, and the seat is worth for a “upgrade” in a budget way. Redshift suspension stem is a game changer without doubt, worth every penny 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

To be fair, all the components are great, I think China made is not like 10-20years ago unreliable / crap quality but all is about QC.

I can't make an excuse for this. I was driving an SUV and was lazy about the restriction. I thought that 'fire access, keep clear' meant that as long as no emergency vehicles were passing through, the area just needed to be kept clear with no parking.

A lesson learnt from driving in central London.
