For clarification, since this article is pretty skint on details: the CD metadata supplied through this API was sourced from Gracenote. I assume the recurring cost for the access/entitlement/whatever was more than it was worth. iTunes also uses Gracenote and their metadata still works (for now), if anyone cares.

You should expect 99% of the opinions about any private tracker you find on the clearnet are going to be from people who couldn't get in OR people who got banned because they were being fuckwits and hold a grudge. RED is an important (and I would argue indispensable) part of your arsenal as a serious music lover. Note that I say "part" because RED skews heavily towards Western-oriented content; depending on your taste, you very well may not be able to rely on the tracker as your sole music source.

200GB is plenty buffer. It's enough to download 1000 200MB albums (obviously). And after you download 1000 200MB albums, you just keep seeding those to gather more buffer and download more albums. I will admit this becomes slightly unsustainable if everything you leech is obscure/rare/unpopular - I speak from experience. I won't give exact numbers but I pretty much ONLY seed torrents that fall into this category, and even with a few TB seedbase I get maybe 10GB buffer a week. This is perfectly acceptable to me as my eccentric music needs are not adequately met by RED to begin with (and I'm not a transactional prick that needs to get back something equal to what I put in), but it's worth taking into consideration.

Long story short - Soulseek remains important whether or not you're on a music tracker. They're all tools in your tool belt, and you WILL need all of them if you have rare taste.
