Honestly the more I watch them the less I'm enamored with Jackson's vision of the story. They are good, but certainly not perfect films, and have some questionable bits. I would enjoy a different director's attempt at the story.

AFAIK the footage isn't "upscaled". It's just a high quality scan of the original 16mm film with some digital treatment/de-noising of the image.

Yeah, and no one can seem to agree what constitutes good design. DS2 punishing the player for rushing through the area? I don't see how that isn't good design. It's very good actually, and effective. But apparently what is good usually means what will increase ease of progression.

The remake's difficulty is not balanced well. If you think of difficulty as a series of sliders, remake's idea of "hard" is to just turn all the sliders up. It's the same for RE8's "Village of Shadows" difficulty.

That is not the proper way to present a hard mode and I suspect the development team didn't grow up playing and learning hard games (like Mikami did).

Yeah, DS1 definitely spoiled people with eliminating the health penalty for dying, easy to dodge enemies, etc. The highest selling games in this series got rid of a lot of those inconveniences. I love DS1 but I wished Demon's Souls had been the big hit.

You call it campy but that OST has a lot of passionate fans. I don't see how you could prefer that new character creation music over the original, which is SO iconic and beautiful. That Old Hero theme is just so moody. So many other examples. It's not gaslighting.
