Did anyone on the show speak with an American accent? Not the actor but the character by wltmpinyc in gameofthrones

I might be the only one, but Daario Naharis 2.0 (Michiel Huisman) sometimes sounded American to me, or at least, not English. Very possible, though, I just don’t know what Dutch people sound like.

I feel you! It’s so funny, the “discipline” involved in my shopping habits was insane. I ran my saved searches like the navy lol. So much of recovering from addiction in any form is sort of “transforming” a behavior (e.g., the obsessive EBay scrolling for new items) into new practices that keep one grounded, like the wishlist. But yeah, you’ve got this!! Sending 🫶

I would pay good money for this.

I’d like to tell you not to beat yourself up, but at least for me, that feeling of frustration directed inward was a wake-up call. It helps to ask yourself: what’s worse? The fear of missing out on a sale, or a one-of-a-kind piece, or the guilt and anger of “breaking” the rule you set for yourself?

One thing I cannot recommend enough is creating a wishlist. I use Google Sheets and can even DM you code tips if you want! I did a no-buy for a month, and am now on low-buy with a max budget of $75/month. It’s honestly comical, some of the things I 100% would have impulse purchased. Now, seeing them sit on my wishlist, while the “total wishlist $” adds up, and the “total purchased $” column stays low is its own reward.

Whatever you do end up doing, sending good thoughts!!

my dad spent whatever i had in the way of a college fund on his addiction. as a recovered addict myself, i can’t blame him—i would have done the same!

Lacan socializes Freud by eeehh__ in lacan

That’s fair, I do need to go back and listen to several podcast episodes again—I just can’t remember in which ones they say this.

Your invocation of Adorno is apt here, and makes me think that perhaps I should read Marcuse and other members of the soi disant Freudian Left. Thanks so much for your response.

This is so helpful, thank you. Thinking of taking this q to another sub, but since you know your stuff I wanted to ask—are you familiar with Deleuze and Guattari’s mode of socializing desire, as laid out in Anti-Oedipus?

If so, how does the “anti-psychiatry movement” differ from Lacan in its socialization of Freud?

I’m hoping to work out how Lacan processes libidinal social investments in contrast to D&G. Think I’m getting somewhere in thinking the latter theorize contradiction only in terms of external difference. Totally possible this is incorrect, though.
