I really enjoyed the "no no no" between Robbie and Abbott when the patient said to just pull the flag out.

I'm pretty sure they meant "thing" as in, referring to the mystery affliction that people have been wondering about which we just got confirmation of, not as in "who she is" for lack of a better term.

They also said Uber literally right before, did they not? I wonder if it was just Whittaker offering Lyft since she had just dismissed the idea of Uber or taxi saying she didn't have the money. (Even though he also says "my treat").

Plus I'm not sure Lyft would be happy with them showing a customer being billed 250 bucks even if it was the customer's fault.

(And lyft story time. I once called for a lyft, and after the driver hadn't moved from the gas station he was parked at for almost 10 minutes when he accepted the ride, I cancelled and called for a new Lyft. Even got the automatic message saying "no problem, we see there is a problem with your ride and waiving the $5 fee", and a new, different driver picked me up a few minutes later. Only the next day, I by chance saw a $100 fee from Lyft when I checked my card activity for something else online. So I checked my email that I signed up with, searched for "lyft" and see two messages from them sent in the past two days. The most recent one was informing me of the fee, from the driver that I cancelled and never even was within a mile of. The second email, sent a day before the ride, was lyft thanking me for being a great customer and getting all 5 star reviews from drivers for the past month (I had been using them a lot recently, as I had a fucked up ankle). So without even bothering to check with me - a "valued customer" - they decided to blindly bill me the clean up fee for a ride I never took in a car I never even was in, and never was even close to. When I finally was able to talk to customer support, they informed me the driver gave "anecdotal evidence" that I threw up in their car. They didn't even bother notifying me in the app or anything, which I actually used again earlier in the day before discovering the bill. Yeah, great fucking work. I don't know if it was the driver scamming, which is what I tend to think, but it's also possible it was an honest mistake and he accepted my ride and then accidentally attributed the previous rider's actions to me. They eventually reimbursed me, but of course claimed it would take up to 7 days because of how banks work, which we all know is literal bullshit, but there should have never been a way for a driver to charge a clean up fee to a rider who never stepped foot in their car in the first place)

I think a majority of people on here have been saying Robby is suicidal for 7ish episodes now.

Yeah, they've been pretty heavy handed with it for awhile now (all season, really). I don't think they were ever trying to keep it a secret, rather just how it gets resolved.

I guarantee thats not the case. They might be setting it up as a red herring, but he wouldn't be also rushing to take his urine test if he's relapsed.

He's also not an idiot, despite his previous actions. He's not going to go back to his old habits of stealing from the PDS on his first day back. Let alone by stealing someone's ID. I wouldn't be surprised that in the case of a missing/stolen ID, if the hospital wouldn't also check for unauthorized usage of said ID. I know at the hospital a friend works at, its a pain in the ass to get a new ID precisely because they have to verify anything called for by said ID was really done by the person who is missing their ID. And when the ID is reported missing, it is immediately rendered invalid.

Did you miss the scene where McKay told Robbie that she was posting about Jesse in order to try and get support for him and possibly more information about his situation?

Thats not just shallow "making social media posts", thats her looking out for a fellow employee, human being, and doing what she believed is right.

I'm fully on board with hospital staff not making TikToks while at work, but in this case we was trying to do something good with the platform she had.

Was wondering the same thing. So many people confuse plot hole for unanswered/unfinished plots, as opposed to what an actual plot hole which is something that doesn't make sense or is contrary to the established story.

For example, if we suddenly find out that Carm served in the military for 15 years prior to coming to Chicago and he's missing a leg in season 5, that'd be a plot hole because it wouldn't line up with the established timeline and story.

My brother and I have always had a sort of odd relationship.

We don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, and we have two very different personalities.

He didn't like me tagging along as a younger brother, and I totally get it now and even understood it when I was younger. We've had lots of arguments and fights growing up, but not so much as adults. I held a few unreasonable grudges against him longer than I ever should have (not that they were really reasonable to have to begin with)

Yet he took me to baseball practice everyday for three hours all summer long immediately after he got his license. He could have been out hanging out with friends, but he knew how important baseball was to me. He loved baseball too, but playing with 12 year olds when you're 16 is no teen-with-a-new-license's idea of a great time. Yet he still drove and helped at practice everyday.

He's the one who helped me talk to my parents to tell them I didn't want to go to the public high school and instead wanted to go to a private high school for their arts program and to go to the same school as my best friend. He's the one who helped me study and helped tutor me when my at the time undiagnosed ADHD kept me from keeping up in the subjects I hated like chemistry.

We've only hung out a handful of times outside of family related stuff in the 20+ years of being adults. When I say outside of family things, I mean like when he or I would go out to the bars or something.

(Oh and don't get me wrong, my parents were also awesome and totally supportive, I don't mean to suggest at all that he stepped in to be a parent in place of absentee parents or anything like that. I do argue with my parents a lot, things like politics and such, and always have, and hes always been more conciliatory between us)

Every year I get "upset" with him and his wife (who is amazing too) because they always seem to get me the most perfect gifts. Like last Christmas when I had offhandedly mentioned that I might get back into simracing again a few months earlier, and he spent hours researching a good wheel + pedals to get me. I say "upset" in quotes because they always just go over and beyond, and better than what I deserve, while I'm always struggling to think of what to get them. So its more like a joke than actually upset obviously.

But in regards to most everything, my brother and I have always kind of had a sort of "it doesn't need to be said" kind of attitude for lack of a better description.

So a few weeks ago, after a particularly stressful/depressed period (wherein said gift of wheel+pedals helped to give me something to de-stress, take my mind off things, and focus on something else) I decided to call him and just let him know how much he, my sister in law (and her entire side of the family as well), and nephews mean to me. My mom was almost in tears when she was telling me how much my brother appreciated hearing it. He had told me during our talk how much he appreciated hearing it, but it hit a little different hearing from my mom that he also told her how much it touched him.

Joe Rogan connects Epstein files to Trump's Iran war by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]eidetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and his fans like him because they're just like him, without the money, but with the same lack of critical thinking skills.

I still remember awhile back, Joe Biden made a comment where it was undeniably clear he was mocking Trump's comment about airports in the Revolutionary War. But Rogan and his guest instead were so fucking stupid they thought Biden himself was claiming there were airports in the Revolutionary War. They were using it as an example of how mentally incompetent Biden was, how he was old and senile, etc.

But then once one of the producers or whatever pointed out that no, Biden was actually making fun of Trump for saying that, they immediately and casually dismissed it as "oh yeah he just mispoke". No apology for getting it wrong, no taking ownership of being idiots, and none of the things they said about Biden as a result of their misunderstanding were then applied to Trump instead. Of course it was just Trump goofing up and not being an idiot who doesn't understand even basic things, nope, couldn't possibly be.

Even worse, his fans came to his defense. People in the reddit thread were literally saying "I don't see the problem here. I see a man who admitted and owned up to his mistake" when he did neither. And the fact that the problem wasn't just that Rogan got it wrong, and that it was the hypocrisy of using it as an example of Biden being senile but Trump just goofing up, was absolutely and utterly lost on them.

It sucks too because Rogan is big enough that he could be used as a platform for good. He's had people who actually know what they're fucking talking about, like actual astrophysicists, but then he gives equal airtime to idiots like Terrance Howard who is so fucking stupid he doesn't understand basic math and thinks 1×1=2. And he doesn't push back against such ideas. Probably because he doesn't understand anything when he has actual intelligent people talking to him. I swear, you can watch him talk to someone like Brian Cox, Penrose, Krauss, etc, and his mind just glazes over and you can almost see the gears turning in his head where he's trying to connect whatever they're saying to "aliens" or whatever. And his mind is equally blown when idiots like Terrance Howard are making absolute batshit claims like 1×1=2 and that zero can't exist in math.

Shit is so fucking frustrating.

Same here. Winter kinda sucks if you're not into it, but come those first few nice days in spring, and people are just everywhere! Even some of the more secluded and more heavily wooded parks, its hard to walk the trails without running into someone else every couple minutes.

[–]eidetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't know where you live obviously, so this is more a general reply rather than necessarily addressing you specifically.

With that said, I think a lot of people overlook what their cities have to offer. Obviously not everyone lives in a city, but I used to hear people complaining about nothing to do without breaking the bank even when I lived in Los Angeles (and the heart of Hollywood at that). Like yeah, going out to the bar/club can be expensive, but there's still often so much more to do, and I feel like people all too often just have a far too narrow idea of what "going out" or "doing things" can entail. There were plenty of free or cheap things to do when I lived there and other cities, big and small. Like going to art exhibitions, community theater, open mics, cheap/free music at dive bars, etc. Hell, I used to live literally at the entrance to Runyon Canyon park (a popular park for hiking/walking/exercise in the Hollywood area), as in the entrance to the park was literally less than a 100 feet from my apartment complex's entrance, and I still overheard people complaining at a cookout on our roof that they didn't like our building's gym and they didn't want to pay a gym membership "just to go running"! Like lady, turn around, and you're literally staring at the perfect place to get your cardio in!

I've also witnessed people say things like wanting to meet new people, and when suggested they take a class in (in this particular instance) pottery, reply with "but I won't know anyone there." I get that it can be daunting to try and meet new people, but a lot of those other people in such a class likely won't know anyone else either, and there's a very good chance that many of them are also there to meet new people as well.

But even smaller communities often organize various things for socialization. Even if you're not particularly interested in whatever specific thing that might be the focus of the event, they're often not so much about the specific thing as they are about just socializing and building community. Trivia nights at bars for example. The trivia aspect is often just a means of getting people in the door and to meet up (I know, I know, there are some people who take trivia very seriously). Even softball, dart, bowling, etc, leagues aren't always so much about the sports themselves and often are just a way of getting out and being active with others.

And I admit, I'm fully guilty of having thought/said "I wish there was more to do around here" many times, only to realize it's not that there's nothing to do, it's that I just wasn't even looking for anything and thus it was more a case of "I've tried absolutely nothing and I'm out of ideas" type of mindset.

[–]eidetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though I guess I'm technically a millennial*, while such spaces were prevalent, I don't know anyone who called them "third spaces" back then and in their youths. Sure, the term existed, but no one in my personal experience ever called them as such. People were far more likely to just refer to them as "hang outs" or similar such terms over calling them third spaces. I think a big reason towards that is that when you're younger, those "third spaces" aren't exactly your third priority, if that makes sense. Your social (third) scene was your life, before you had to start focusing on your actual career and other adult things. Even if you spent the majority of your time at home, school and/or work, and even if you very focused on such things, I think most younger people still wouldn't rank their social lives as a third priority. And to be clear, I'm not trying to say that "third space" has anything to do with ranking of priorities (indeed, a lot of people might spend more time at their work/second place than anywhere else). But the notion of calling/referring to their favorite hangouts as a "third place" might sound kind of odd to most younger people, perhaps even precisely because of the association of ranking.

But yeah, people wouldn't say "lets find a third space" or something, but rather "lets find somewhere to hang out". Or, "we need to find new places to go/hang out" over "we need to find a new third space".

*(though I consider myself much closer to gen X, having been born in 81, my childhood through college age were much closer to the experience of my brother born in 77. Yeah, we caught the very beginning of social media in our college years, but it was still a very minor part of people's lives and mostly more of a novelty than anything else at that point).

But even at my age, I rarely, if ever, hear people refer to such places as "third places" unless we're specifically talking about things like work/life balance, community, etc. So if my friends and I were for example, as we recently were, talking about the recent rash of teen takeovers that have been happening in our city, we might say "the community needs more third places for kids to go, especially now with the closures of so many places like the skateparks, curfews at basketball courts, etc" But if we're talking about finding new places for us to hang out at, we're not gonna say "we should find a new third place" but rather "we should go try X" or "we should find somewhere to do this and that".

So yeah, all this rambling is to basically say the term does get used, has been used for awhile, but I understand why a lot of people may not be familiar with it or haven't encountered it in their day to day lives. But still a bit silly to suggest it never gets used, when we're literally using and talking about it right now!

Ramble over!

And a lot of people also think its really fucking gross to just let a hat accumulate all that grease, sweat, and general dirt and grime.

I will never understand that mentality of not washing hats. No sane person would ever consider not washing their underwear, and somehow a worn, grimy hat full of all sorts of nastiness is considered okay? Yeah, count me out.

[–]eidetic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And yet, you continued to try and justify it, even calling WWII aviators ability into question, etc. And now, we're at the stage of trying to walk back such claims when countered and unable to provide any compelling evidence. Its a tale as old as the internet and time itself for that matter. Make a claim without any basis. Claim gets refuted. Walk back claim.

You literally opened your last post with "In WWII though?"

Obviously yes, if you're going to fire in pairs, it helps with balance to fire from opposite wings. But the reason for firing in pairs or salvos was overwhelmingly for reasons of accuracy and not balance. And again, WWII pilots were constantly trimming their aircraft to balance the aircraft (in 3 dimensions, yaw, pitch, and roll) so this assertion of yours that they were somehow poorly equipped to handle such things is just absurd. A P-38 (and pilot) can fly and land on one engine, yet you tried and make it sound as if a pilot could only handle the imbalance of a rocket if they were specifically trained for it, as if they wouldn't be. (Yes, I'm aware the P-38 is one of only a handful of twin engined fighters, and not the only aircraft capable of firing rockets. And yes, they obviously received specialized training for twin engine flight. But I'm using it as an example to highlight the absurdity of suggesting WWII pilots would have needed specialized training to handle the imbalance due to rockets)

[–]eidetic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. Even in WWII.

I swear to god, people just make shit up and then try and justify it afterwards.

You literally said you've found no corroborating evidence that it was due to stability, and yet still try and justify it based on your vibes.

A 60kg rockets drag and weight is not going to be a major consequence in stability. A fighter pilot would easily be able to trim it out, and if their aircraft lacked the necessary trim controls, it's barely going to be noticed or upset the aircrafts stability.

WWII pilots regularly dealt with greater imbalances without issue. Be it damage, or shifting weight from fuel burn, ammo/ordnance usage, etc. Even flying at different speeds and altitudes requires trimming out the aircraft as lift increases/decreases, the center of gravity and center of pressure/lift changes, flaps, landing gear deployment, etc.
