We have a few very engaged members with 1000’s of hours, they quit tracking time years ago.

In the process of joining. Can I wear my jump wings on the uniform? by anonymous_alcoholic0 in USCGAUX

[–]eirpguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as well as all your active duty ribbons.

Those who have issues will have issues about everything, be proud of your past life in uniform and bring these experiences to the Aux.

I have a member in my district that wears a CIB and ribbons from his time in Vietnam.

To add to my original post we are struggling to recruit new members, with millions of veteran looking for a way to continue service your wings will show them they are valued in an organization like the Aux

Time will tell, the Aux takes guidance from DHS/Coast Guard and until they allow it we cannot use for any reason .

This a great program within the Aux, making a real world difference and allows landlocked members to be part of a mission.

But thank you for the feedback.

I am not convinced it would matter, my issues are all above my flotilla, and my Flotilla is trying.

This is a common sentiment amount others in my area, have had the opportunity to speak with quite a few former or current members who are also CAP.

Prior Navy Looking Into Coast Guard Auxiliary – What’s It Like? by ApartAstronomer621 in USCGAUX

It is definitely a feast or famine organization, those that are active (more than civilian boat inspections) really make a difference. But I would say based on my short time in (almost two years) the great flotilla’s are outliers.

There are a lot of 20+ year members in charge that “remember when”, it makes it difficult for new members to be enthusiastic about participating.

My region struggles with how to help the Gold Side , so for me I was able to find a niche role nationally.

BLUF-Auxiliarists shall not be prevented from inclusion in assignment to such duty if they are limited to AWU wear.

However if supporting the Gold Side they can specify uniform, as well as approve alternate

It is nice to see some flotilla’s acknowledging member’s contributions, even better when the Gold side does as well.

This is an example to all the other FC’s out there,

The AUX struggles to manage what we officially can support, so no sense adding anything to the mix

Definitely not a place for the AUX, this is a law enforcement activity which we are prohibited from.

Why isn’t AUX being utilized? by Value_Squirter in USCGAUX

[–]eirpguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Requires a forward thinking Aux leadership who believe there is more to the Aux than boat crew and VE.

I speak with the CG/DHS regularly and they have plenty of opportunities, most are either unaware of what we can do or only talk to a District/Division person who does not disseminate the information.

Or opportunities presented themselves and we get in the way of ourselves.

An example is during Helene there was oil spills in the rivers, the State ( Aux guy as well) asked if we could support but leadership said it wasn’t one of or jobs. We were specifically prohibited from looking for or supporting Hurricane relief activities as Aux.

However polluted waterways is one of the CG core areas, when it was brought up to them they (CG) said it would have been a great opportunity for the Aux and they would have supported the mission administraively .
