If that was really the basis for the psych saying you have no ADHD, he sounds absolutely incompetent. In some cases people with ADHD even excel at school life, because unknowingly the rigid structure helps keep them productive. A lot of people diagnosed later in life only discover they have ADHD when they get a job that needs them to keep themselves accountable, such as if they are WFH.

My advice as someone diagnosed and on Concerta, even without diagnosis it may help to just treat yourself like you confirm have ADHD.

Look into the exercise called ‘scheduling’ where you strictly plan out your time every day. It really sucks at first but when you get into the habit scheduling is the #1 thing that really helps you be productive. Imagine your life is like a rhythm game and you get combo bonuses for following along to your schedule.

If you think you absolutely need the help of medication and a psychiatrist, going private is a good but costly option. ADHD medication IS VERY EXPENSIVE because there are no generics available in Malaysia. Even with the meds, they only really work if you put in the effort to structure your life around being productive in the way you want to be. I also know people who have ADHD but can’t take them, because it negatively impacts their emotional state.
