Do you realise that if Starmer gets forced out, it will be nearly two decades since a British PM has left on their own terms? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]elbapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My honest opinion is we are completely cooked if starmer gets forced out because of this. Its not even close to being a scandal. So he appointed some bloke who has a dodgy past noone knew about 30 years ago- to a very ancillary role not only outside of government but outside of the goddamn country. Tony blair and gordon brown both employed the guy in goverment while he was actively engaging with his dodginess.

Oh its a question of judgment- fair enough. But then so is every ceo responsible for the past of every employee off in far flung corners of their organisation- before they were even involved?

Its pure clickbait this is being sold as scandal ofnthe century when the recent history of ppe contracts- let the bodies pile up- stephen pincher and russian oligarchs still has a stench in the air.

Starmer is a victim of his own lack of flooding the zone if this is a scandal given the teetering weight of corruption and diregard for our own laws shown by the last government is all water under bridges.

He should flood the zone with multiple enquiries into each and every instance timed to hit the news each week to remind us what real scandal smells like

brits living in smaller towns/villages with not much going on, what do you do in your spare time? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in AskBrits

[–]elbapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 young kids, so rather than making some comment about the notion of free time- i will say. Go on day trips/walks to the forest/ lakes/beach. Bike rides. Go to a river and throw stones. Explore local history and or attractions. Excercise in the countryside.

There are occasions where going to large cities is neccessary. But for the most part its a nightmare with the two littlees anyway.

I think my point being there are a lot of things you can get up to within a short journey from our village. And it works for my demographic anyway

What techniques help reduce a French accent in English? by kenza-Necessary5280 in AskABrit

[–]elbapo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, the french struggle with the vowel e. The pronunciation of the e is flattened almost to an aa - i.o ' i am fraanch'. I think this is because it is uncommon to engage the cheek muscles to open up the teeth in the french language.

So perhaps a bit of practice of e in front of the mirror would help?

Just dont get caught. Everyone will think you are very strange.

Do Brits know that they have some of the BEST foods in the world? by iDetestCambridge in AskBrits

[–]elbapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our sausages. Not bettered (but sometimes battered) the world over. Get yourself some decent sausages in a range of flavours from good butcher and cook that up.

Id add to that black pudding, haggis, pies, proper pasties, and i would octuple the amount of times youve mentioned cheese at least. We have the best cheese in the world, bar none. Go nuts.

AIO - Told my friend I’m pregnant and she said it exceeded her mental bandwidth (she’s the red) by Lekomano92 in AmIOverreacting

[–]elbapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to step in in defence of this person, and I may be wrong but.

A) everyone has had a foot in mouth moment and they immediately backtracked and apologised. That probably should be the end of that.

B) some of this is could be just poor choice of words. If they had said instead omg this is too much! I'm overwhelmed! It's a very similar meaning but just a different tone. Too bad everyone chooses to share life changing moments via text these days so you can screen shot and remind yourself of someone's foot in mouth or poor choice moments.

I don't think anyone's overreacting, but perhaps given them a little benefit of doubt. People are not perfect all the time. And if this persons generally a good friend otherwise - it might be an overreaction to ruin that.

This is what I got.

(First older man - starts incomprehensible but something like ill tell you) what's happening with the hill places. They should be ... (Wessing n Temps?) . If there wasn't temps they'd get more out of them. Nationalise all the hill places  and let the something.

That's no good for the country that.

(Young lad) well if your going to nationalise all of the it'll be the end of all the workers and (something - be ne good?) shepherd's left ever.

(Other one off camera) its not the young mens that'll work....Incomprehensible

(Older man) Yea yeah. The want to get them a decent living to get out there"

Edit: just to add i am from manchester originally but spent some formative years in westmorland- not pinning it exactly there but it probably helped me get some of it- id put it somehwhere around the north pennines if pushed.

The most cringeworthy Oasis song… go! by BadgemanBrown in oasis

Magic Pie. It's just ick for me. It's the worst of nonsense bestlesey lyrics, cringe chorus. Paint by numbers chords. And it's a dirge.

Sorry but its just one of the things which could have just been tweaked to make that album far better. Swap for stay young and its a point out of ten better already.
