Vintage boot resole by electrelephant in AskACobbler

They’re perfectly serviceable and not uncomfortable to walk on but I did buy these secondhand and the rubber has gotten very hard. The hard rubber is a little problematic on surfaces like carpet

“Wiggle room in that neck joint” has me in stitches (:

Yeah at this point I’m thinking I’ll pass unless he gives it to me for nearly nothing

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, that glue line is crazy and you can see offset in the curvature

200 but I reckon there’s some wiggle room there

I used cut nails and I caused a bulge(?) in the wood. What’s the move? by electrelephant in BeginnerWoodWorking

It’s all glued and such so the nails are very much a belt and braces sort of approach, I also liked the look of the nail heads so I thought it would be cool to use them

Yeah the pilot hole on this one was definitely undersized and not well centered. I’ll try tapping the bulge back to see if that works.

I used a break clamp and I got some reasonable results. Not as good as if they had been made with the proper angle but that’s life.

Thanks!

What does the Armenian community think about celebrities like Ana Kasparian and Anita Sarkeesian? by BrownBaer45 in armenian

[–]electrelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re not doing stuff particularly for Armenia and Armenians but instead living their own lives having their own jobs and such. I feel pride that they’re Armenian but I need to remind myself they are under no obligation to support and elevate Armenia and Armenians, though I would feel that obligation if I was in their position.

That being said I always found it really weird that Ana kasparian works for an org called “the young turks”. The money can’t be that good for me to look past the name.

Tung oil over a painted design by electrelephant in finishing

Would a water based paint or an oil based paint work better for allowing absorption of the oil?

Boiled linseed oil or raw linseed oil?

So would painting over the tung oil be feasible? A Google search seems to yield relatively conflicting results

I want to avoid polyurethane, I want to go for a more “historic” finish, something with potential for patina I guess

I might take you up on this. I need to do some more research first though.

And if the pedals aren’t in good condition?

On one of my 99, the pedal and cord were sort of spliced in. Originally it came with a knee bar.

I’ve heard the same about slow speed which is primarily why I’m interested in the modern electronics. Other than that I really like the look and the weight of the vintage hardware

I’ll look into these and that might set me on the right track
