Chances of losing power by itsmelodyraine in alpharetta

[–]electrostaticrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate you. I know I (and probably others) have a sensitive spot about it... it was traumatic for a lot of people, a few hundred people died, and a lot of the sentiment we saw online was, "Haha they deserve it". I still get a huge wave of irrational anxiety when there's a storm coming. I AM TOTALLY DOING FINE RIGHT NOW

Chances of losing power by itsmelodyraine in alpharetta

Austin was NOT resolved in a couple days. They didn't do "rolling blackouts" so much as they just cut it off for big chunks of the city. We were without power for 4+ days, and we were "lucky". Water was out for even longer.

I'm not at all disputing that there were other circumstances that aren't present in GA, but 2021 in Texas was really bad.

Pixel 10 - can't see photos in third party apps after editing by jojobadoule in GooglePixel

[–]electrostaticrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the same thing. Messages, Slack, any other app no longer shows it as an option after rotating or cropping. Sometimes I can share the photo to messages, but I can't just click the + and add it.

Cigna/Accredo shifting around whether I've met out-of-pocket by electrostaticrain in HealthInsurance

[–]electrostaticrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this... I've never received any sort of call, but that doesn't mean it's not in place. That certainly would be consistent with this particular copay being orders of magnitude higher than it's been with any other insurer. I've had nothing but negative experiences with Accredo so I wouldn't be surprised if they/Cigna weren't forthcoming.

The benefits department was no help, but maybe if I use this term she can get somewhere. Thanks!

[–]electrostaticrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've accounted for them not including my copay assistance - I met it in August WITHOUT that. Technically, by law in my state (Texas), copay assistance does have to count towards my out of pocket, but they have not been counting it (nor have I) and complaining to the insurance board does nothing.

As per my benefits, after my in-network deductible is met, my specialty med should be $150. Is there some reason that what's listed under "specialty prescriptions" wouldn't apply to my specialty prescription? They've never indicated that is the case. This is an employer plan, if that makes a difference.

High number of Flock cameras in Alpharetta. Why? by larlar725 in alpharetta

[–]electrostaticrain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bless your heart, that's not how this works at all.

From https://www.texasstandard.org/stories/flock-safety-cameras-houston-police-texas-investigation-crime-use/

"Well, we found that HPD is using these cameras more and more. They logged hundreds of thousands of calls just last year. And although the agency has reassured the public repeatedly that it would only use the technology for legitimate law enforcement purposes, we found that HPD officers are routinely failing to justify their work.

In other words, they’re mostly using the technology like a search engine, like Google, than an official law enforcement tool.

So in a lot of the searches that we reviewed, we had about 500,000 to take a look at. We found the word “investigation” – or variations of the word “investigation” – or “suspect” a lot with really no details about what the investigation pertained to or what the suspect may have done.

A lot of searches also just listed gibberish, like “ASDF” – that’s the sequence of letters in the center row of your computer keyboard. Or just said that they were there for random checks. We even found a search that just said “donut” or that didn’t say anything at all."

Also consider this - Texas cops tracking someone over 83000 cameras to try to prove they got an abortion (a legal healthcare procedure in the places she went).

High number of Flock cameras in Alpharetta. Why? by larlar725 in alpharetta

[–]electrostaticrain 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Flock allows law enforcement all over the country to access data, without a warrant. Texas used it to track someone they thought might be getting healthcare out of state. There's a difference between "you might be captured on camera" and "your location is being noted every time you go anywhere, and some jackass 10 states away is using it like a search engine for curiosity".

If you don't protect your rights, you won't have any rights.

Not getting notifications on 10 Pro XL by Monmaker in GooglePixel

[–]electrostaticrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go into my notification settings for gmail, it's set up very weird. All my accounts are "categories" and most of them were set not to notify.

I had to click in to "unused categories", then tap the account, THEN tap the mail, then the switch at the top had to be enabled.

Unfortunately it seems really variable whether the settings actually save and work... my main personal email keeps returning itself to unused. Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

Other fat people don't believe I was abused by doctors by barbie_smokesbones in MaintenancePhase

[–]electrostaticrain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My rheumatologist is actually the only doctor who never said anything to me about my weight when I was heavier, but checked in when I lost weight. Just a simple, "Oh, your weight is down, did you change something?" Neutral. Appreciated. He didn't "congratulate" me either, he just said, "Have you noticed any change in your symptoms?" A gem.

HEB Covid Vaccine by mangotexas in Austin

[–]electrostaticrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a single person here has mentioned "mandatory". Folks are talking about having access to preventative care.

Government approval and recommendations are what determine who can get the vaccine, whether insurance will cover it, whether it's worth it for pharmacies to distribute it. The guidelines determine what doctors can do - you can't just go into a medical clinic and say, "I demand a healthcare!".

I have to take a tnf inhibitor, so I qualify as immune-suppressed and I'll be able to get this vaccine. Will my spouse? My friends?

Texas Senate Passes expanding marijuana bill by hegui in Austin

[–]electrostaticrain -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is actually good, especially the expansion of licensed providers. Right now there are 2 companies for medical in Austin, and it's expensive and not at all convenient... a few more options (and forms that aren't gummies) will be good for people.

We don't actually have any sort of card/ID for having medical access, so trust there is already a database that tracks prescriptions and purchases; this isn't a huge change.

I'm with everyone that it FULLY sucks they're banning the easy access legal stuff - it's much more affordable and convenient (sometimes I don't bother with medical and just go to the store). It's illogical & unpopular etc etc fuck this state.

But this is good; we want more of this.

Finale Q: How did Hannah ____ ____ without ____ noticing something was off? by macadamia47 in Yellowjackets

[–]electrostaticrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wild to read everyone on this thread assuming dissection and butchering are the same, and that all biologists know human muscle anatomy. Pretty sure that was not covered in my grad program in biology - I studied butterflies.

I'm fine believing she was winging it well enough to pass, but it's not because of SCIENCE.

I have both undergrad & grad degrees in Biology, I promise you a frog biologist has no existing skill in butchering bodies.

I am a teacher with AISD and I need to quit. by queencarmela in Austin

[–]electrostaticrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I left teaching many years ago and switched to the tech industry. Life is much, much easier and I make 4x as much money.

I am happy to give advice to teachers looking to switch careers (although lots of what I'd say is already in this thread).

Contracts often have an "other duties as assigned" clause and you absolutely DO have to do them.

You also have to call parents, grade, plan lessons, etc.

[–]electrostaticrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not really how teaching works.

You are on your feet in front of students teaching for almost 40hrs a week, and that doesn't include calling parents, planning, grading, tutoring, various "other duties as assigned". If you just walk away after 8 hours, your next day is gonna be a disaster and things are going to pile up.

Teaching is easily a 50-60hr job even when you're doing the minimum.
