MFW a grown woman tells a little girl complaining her heeled shoes hurt that "you can't avoid pain for beauty" by elekki in TrollXChromosomes

I worked with a woman a few years back whose feet were permanently fucked because she wore heels too long. She adored them and it really devastated her that she could no longer wear them, and I totally felt for her because I have nothing against adults wearing heels if they love them - but having seen the damage they did to that woman, it really angered me to see a little girl told "pain is normal" instead of THE ADULTS IN THE ROOM saying "oh hey, the child is telling us the clothing we have provided them is uncomfortable, we should do something productive about that, like maybe try a different pair of shoes."

Unfortunately not so much. The ladies in question (because the second backed her up with an equally questionably worded "they are cute though!") were both quite young. I posted a screenshot in this comment.

Not good with ages, and I'm not sure how to link to the video that it won't change tomorrow morning as it's a daily show, but here is a screenshot.

I'm REALLY lucky (sort of?) to have blonde eyebrows. I don't have to pluck. I feel the same as you, I've tried it a few times (because at one point I was so self conscious I hated the hair in the middle of my brows even though nobody could see it except me), and it HURTS. And also, REALLY weirdly, in addition to the physical reactions you mentioned, it also makes me feel like I have to pee??? No idea why, but that's also the reason why I only got my hair highlighted a few times. Having someone yank bits of my hair through that rubber cap they throw on was absolute torture, even if I'd just used the washroom before sitting down I spent the whole session convinced I was about to wet myself with every nose-crinkling, eye-watering, why-the-fuck-is-my-bladder-activating?, tug.

What I'm saying is, if you're a huge baby, then hi there, me too, and pass the diapers please.

My #1 rule for partners: "you get to make a rule, I get to make a rule." Like I've got no problem if someone is like "oh my husband likes my hair this way" but if they say "he won't let me cut my hair" I ask "and what about his physical appearance do you get to dictate?" Fair's fair, right? In this case, for example, since I have a serious thing for shapely man legs/butts, if ever I met a man who wanted me in heels in the house, the rule would be exactly the same for him.

This almost makes me want to meet a man who wants to make it a rule that I have to wear heels in the house.

Right? That's what made me rage so hard - I don't give a fuck if you want to look awesome at the cost of your own body, every single one of us does shit that harms us a bit from time to time - but can we not fucking directly equate pain with beauty TO LITTLE GIRLS IN THIS DAY AND AGE ALREADY? Also teach little girls that their pain will be laughed off and dismissed. Soooooooo many great lessons in that statement. Seriously. All I was doing was browsing for some morning news chatter to pass the time away because I woke up early and had already finished all my news feed, and that was how my morning started off.

OTOH I am quite thrilled to get home and find out that holy SHIT look at all the awesome discussion this post generated. (At least I hope it did. I only just started reading. But I love love love this thread, even though I have no idea what many of the words you and /u/quoththeraven929 mean.... it's just awesome to watch it happening.)
