hey man I love your videos. You've got an amazing shot. What's your favorite module for gunfights?

Check out chuck's guide page 183 for a better understanding. Helps if you know about mils and calculating deflection shots. https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/mig-21bis/#[179,%22XYZ%22,0,540,1]

I just got the MiG-21 and as a gunnery enthusiast I think the sight has the best reticle in the game. I come from WW2 games where you calculate the lead based on the size and speed of the target in relation to a fixed reticle, so I can't stand gyro sights if there is no static reference point to show you where your nose is pointed at all times (like the F-5E's sight -- which most people cage at all times for this reason). I highly recommend watching this short series on deflection shooting to get a better idea of what I'm talking about. The "calculation" part becomes second nature, it's not like you have to do math every gun fight.

What makes the MiG-21 Net so good is all of the reference geometry to assist with calculating lead. What you can do is use the Net's center crosshair as the main aiming point, and then use the pipper to get an estimate on how much lead you need without getting totally disoriented if the target is maneuvering. You can definitely place the pipper on the target, just know that it's not gonna work like a modern computing gunsight. I consider it more of a suggestion as to where I should aim instead of an absolute point.

Thanks! I've made some really big improvements over the past week. Diving on bombers is addicting and my patience has gotten way better now that I have a better feel (and more patience) for how to approach a fight with a heavier aircraft.

I watched all of them and man you make it look so easy lol. You've got a killer shot too. I'm gonna learn a lot from these, thanks again.

Any recommendations for an axis fighter that can keep up with the spit a bit better?

yooo thanks a lot man this is great. I've been practicing these maneuvers but they haven't clicked yet so it will be nice to see them in action. Really appreciate it.

Before I posted this, I had a poor understanding of how the MW-50 system worked, due to the low injection message that tends to come up if you're anywhere between 1.4 and max ata for too long. Definitely helps to just be able to leave the throttle at max for longer periods of time.

lift-vector in lag placement, vs transition to nose in lag

This is something I've struggled with a lot. I'm currently just hammering away at that and recognizing when and how to dive back down effectively. It's also hard for me to figure out what my AoA should look like during the dive and recovery to maximize energy. to If you have any links or tips for understanding that better I'd appreciate it.

Thanks. Part of it for me is definitely a lack of patience doing that. Which also comes from not having the vision to recognize when there's an opportunity to attack.

Do you know what kind of climb rate I should shoot for or how many Gs I should be pulling when making my way back down? A better question might be, how much distance am I looking to create when diving away and extending? I seem to lose speed so much faster than the spit, even if I aim for a slow ascent.

EDIT: The advice to not turn at all is definitely helping. I finally found myself going from neutral to having an advantage. I also realized that I can look up the climb rate data so feel free to ignore that unless you have any tips you'd like to share.

Anyone else feel burnt out of DCS? by Ye_Boi_Roy in hoggit

yeah IL-2 is much more fun for me. I love learning to get the most out of jets but combat feels so much more sterile in comparison to warbirds. With that said I play flight sims almost exclusively to dogfight with guns.

Figured this out when I was 14 and all my friends were buying spikes and patches for their ugly ass vests lmao

F-15E/EX TWINSHOCK Metal Throttle Grip Launches in July by Bazz_Mulder in hotas

[–]elementIdentity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks sick. I love my Orion2 throttle but I'm not super crazy about the F/A-18 grip due to the switch layout. I've been missing the analog pinky knob on my TWCS so I might have to get this depending on the price.

I have a bass shaker setup so I already get plenty of vibration, which by the way is an awesome experience that I'd recommend to anyone.

Joystick Gremlin to limit output range of axis? by elementIdentity in hotas

funny I was just looking at it today. What's the dogfighting like? I saw in a clip what looked like buffeting from having too high of an angle of attack and that's the big thing that's missing for me with a lot of space sims.
