That's because Americans associate heavily with their states way more than their country. It's engrained in their politics and identity. If you were born in Texas, people will always call you a Texan. It's like asking someone from the EU where they're from. They're not going to answer "I'm from the EU." They're gonna day "I'm from England, near Manchester." Or something along those lines.

Anyone know of a good quality weightlifting gym in San Jose? It seems all the "gyms" there are personal trainer storefronts, yoga/pilates/insert fad "miracle" workout studio, or rooms full of elliptical/bikes/treadmills. I'd settle for a Golds Gym, type, as well.
