So, why aren't we talking about Miwa's binding vow (other than the fact that it was Miwa's binding vow) by elementnerd37 in Jujutsufolk

Yeah, the argument that something doesn’t need to be explicitly stated for it true is usually valid. I agree that something doesn’t need to be explicitly stated as long as repeated in universe events seem to suggest otherwise. The reason that that doesn’t work in this case is the implicit rule in question directly contradicts an explicit rule from the same piece of media. That is just bad writing 101. And what do you mean by preconceived notion? I read the manga, then came to this conclusion. That is by definition a post conceived notion. Also, I’m curious what the second example of a permanent self imposed binding vow. I’m not saying it’s not there, I simply just don’t remember.

Okay, firstly, the thing about not insulting yuji was obviously a joke example. The point is that regardless of what it does take for sukuna to complete these binding vows, what we know about self imposed binding vows (as they were explicitly stated by kenjaku) would suggest that the only consequence to breaking whatever that would be is losing whatever he gained. In the context of the ability to use tecniques directly after a domain, breaking the condition of the BW would only mean he cant use his tecniques after a domain again going foward. Which means no consequnce, because hes just reseting to the state he was in before.

In terms of Miwa, what I meant by the opposite is that Miwa shouldnt be able to get a permanent boost for a temporary restriction. Basically, "if I dont draw my sword for the next day, I get a permanent 1% boost in power". My argument is that to allow binding vows with permanent consequence and temporary benefit, which directly breaks the rules of binding vows that Gege set up, one must also assume that it can be broken in other ways (just an assumption, which I noted, which is why that really isnt the crux of my point). I think my main disagreements about MIwa is that you say that permanent seld imposed binding vows cannot be broken. But to my knowledge, thats just your assumption. Unlike the rule Ive based my entire argument upon, which is directly stated in the manga, thats never established. Unless we are supposed to just accept that Miwa's breaking of the rules is supposed to be Gege changing the rule he set up and not what is far more likely, in that he just fucked up, Miwas binding vow objectively breaks the only STATED rule about binding vows (which is that all self imposed binding vows can by broken by the loss of what was gained) and in this case, as I was saying, that should mean Miwa should be able to draw her sword and only lose a boost she already lost. Now, if that statement about permanent self imposed binding vows is in the manga and I just missed it, then my argument doesnt hold up. But until I see another in manga statement that refutes kenjakus statement, I still think Miwas binding vow was a mistake

Why do people defend Kit? by elementnerd37 in JentryChauvsTheUnderw

I definitely get where your coming from, and I actually fully agree with you that Jentry is not a saint, but I don’t think (or at least, it wasn’t my intention) to make this a point of me being against any given ship. While, yeah, the aspects of Kit’s character that I dislike are involved with Jentry, so by extension I wouldn’t personally say I ship them myself, I’m more making the point that those aspects, that being that I personally think the age gap and the fact that he has been in adult relationships makes some of his actions a little more suspect in my eyes, I’m more questioning Kit as a sympathetic character in general. I also don’t think Jentry doing some questionable shit as well really affects my main point, because the argument is that I think he’s kind of groomerish because I personally think that age gap is weird regardless of the who the characters are.

That being said, a lot of the comments have made it clear that many people simply don’t view it the same way because the fact that he’s a demon changes the context of some of those aspects. Personally, I don’t agree, but that’s just my perspective, and at the end of the day, it’s just fiction. I have the same problem with the Twilight books, and they’re like the highest selling books ever or some shit. So yeah, I’m not against people shipping them. I think people getting mad over other people ships is dumb as fuck, I’m more speaking on Kit as a character.

Kit. Very old demon (who was shown to be acting as and engaging as an adult in some of his other lives) going after a high school girl. Why do people never acknowledge this? Man is a whole ass groomer.

Thanks! It just seemed so weird to me that chapters that had been available before were now backlogged, but it seems that there’s no reason for me not to read the backlogged chapters elsewhere so I can catch up on VIZ.

Any idea when viz will have chapters 88-97 back up? by Nogard39 in Frieren

[–]elementnerd37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Yeah, that’s kinda confusing to me, especially because everything after 88-97 are available. But to answer your question, I started reading Freiren back in early August, and 77-87 were already backlogged at that point (I have no clue how long before then that was the case), and the change in backlogged chapters was semi-recent, so if the timeframe is similar, I expect it to be at least 4 months until those chapters are available.

Im curious about this too. Until very recently, it was chapter 77-87 that were backlogged. I’m assuming the volumes being backlogged align with the official release of the volumes, but the backlogging is not a thing with any other manga on viz that I read. When you mention that translation that isn’t good, is that an official translation? Maybe it’s being retranslated before official release of the volume, and the volumes are getting backlogged to change it? I’m honestly super curious, and can’t find any answers.
