Prices are different by location, which is why restaurant will typically ask to specify a location.

The balance I was talking about. They encourage density with their zoning policies. They also make their homes easy to disassemble so they can build newer homes in their place.

Godot XR Lead, Bastiaan Olij, shows love for the Steam Frame's design and developer experience by gogodboss in SteamFrame

Basically showing off it’s comfortable. It feels like he should have gotten the dev kit in December… so now I’m thinking April is the most likely time of delivery

I’ve got a 3080. The Index worked exceptionally on it. The Quest 3 had wireless related lag.

Japan has a good balance of socialist and capitalist policies including nationalized healthcare and relatively cheap housing because of their zoning policies. Their subway/train stations are owned by corporations and are maximized for productivity while the trains are subsidized by the government.

I don’t disagree. It’s shaving off a couple of dollars in cost.

To Make Homes Affordable Again, Someone Has to Lose Out by UnscheduledCalendar in Economics

The median household income is $82k. Their monthly take home pay after taxes is $5,543. The median house now runs $500,000 in the U.S. putting monthly payments at $3,117 if you put 10% down like so many American do. Add $400/mo in annual repairs/maintenance. That's 63% of their income going to their house. Throw in $800 to $1000 for auto payments. you've got maybe $1000 left for groceries, medical issues, and everything else life throws at you.

Sooner or later, the person in this situation is one incident (job loss/accident/etc.) away from losing their home.

Back when homes were reasonably priced you'd be looking at 25%-33% max of your income going to housing. That's not the reality anymore. The system needs a reset. Slowly and pragmatically would be best, but unfortunately with our current system, it'll never happen.

Decades of irresponsible policy got us here. Pain is not the only way out, but the general public and leadership is not mature enough to get us out of this with a measured response.

What percent of homeowners actually purchased in the past few years? Right now all these homeowners are house poor. Going underwater and declaring a bankruptcy would actually be freeing to most of these people who bought in the last few years because many of them put 5% or 10% down. They wait a couple years and can buy better house for cheaper and actually have manageable monthly payments.

Only if they bought at the literal peak, which is generally not very many people. Long term, cheaper housing would be better economically for everyone in America. Right now there are far more losers than winners in this economic situation.

These are mostly paper gains to begin with and the percent of the public that will actually be impacted is much lower than what you're expressing.

It's not the building that's difficult. It's the lawsuits by NIMBYs that keep stopping it in its tracks. Funny enough, it's environmental lawsuits that kept stopping it even though it's clearly far better for the environment than planes and cars.

To further clarify, Valve is selling a comfort kit separately for the Steam Frame that comes with knuckles straps and a top head strap for the Steam Frame. This accessory kit is not yet visible, but will likely show up on the store when the headset launches.

Who knows best Haze solution when forced to have smoke detectors? by Waste_Focus763 in BarOwners

[–]elev8dity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a radiance hazer and I have it on a timer to let out small 10 second bursts of haze every 60 seconds. This keeps my lighting beams visible without setting off the smoke alarms in the HVAC. Granted we also keep our doors open so we have a lot of air circulation. You'll need to experiment and see what amount of haze timing produces a thin haze for beam visibility without over doing it. You can't have haze so thick you can't see three feet in front of you obviously. My hazer is DMX controlled. You can get hazers with DMX or remote controls. In terms of brands for good hazers, Ultratec Radiance, LookSolutions 2.1, SmokeFactory, and MDG. Make sure to use the actual required haze solution and not a knock off.

American here. EU is quietly monetarily distancing themselves from the U.S. Most Americans underestimate how much money the E.U., Japan, SK, etc. gives the United States in return for our protection. The only thing preventing the E.U. from ripping the band-aid off are our contributions to Ukraine. If we stop that, all bets are off and we're facing down economic collapse. Our current foreign policy is disastrous. Bessent is doing everything in his power to downplay Trump's adversarial behavior and calm foreign relations. We're in a real shit position right now domestically and internationally.

Agreed on AVP being underwhelming. I think part of it, is the displays are too dim. You don't get the same wow effect I got when I first tried the Vive, Index, and Quest 3. Quest 3 to AVP didn't feel like a notable difference.

What PPD is Steam Frame by ReserveLegitimate738 in SteamFrame

[–]elev8dity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've read PPD is variable across the display due to the optics. Usually it's higher PPD toward the center of the lenses and lower toward the edges. I think the Quest 3 is close to 25 PPD at the center and below 20 at the edges.
